Golf Course Superintendent . . .Hello Springfield Elk members, this is your golf course superintendent, Shawn DeWitt.

I wanted to make an announcement that you can now follow me on Twitter for the latest golf course conditions and updates for the maintenance department on a day-to-day basis.

I am very proud to be working here and you can expect many improvements and changes in the upcoming years at the Elks.

My Twitter handle is “ElksTurf51”See you on the course!

Trustee Corner . . . Summer is soon approaching and we are busy preparing for another incredible season at the lodge.

John, Dennis, and several volunteers are working steadfast at the pool. We have new steps and handrails, thanks to generous members for their donations, as well as a new heater. Thanks to all who have volunteered. With everyone’s efforts, we expect to have everything up and running in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

The parking lot has been repaired. Riley’s did a great job!! A special thanks to Alan and Michelle Hart and Riley’s for getting the repairs expedited!

Charlie, Shawn, and several members are continuously working on the golf course and getting the grounds in shape for the upcoming season. Thank you Scotty Myers and everyone else who volunteers! We wouldn’t be able to get it all done without you!!

We would also like to thank you for your patience as Sharon gets the restaurant in shape. Do know that she is working hard at finding the right recipe for success in that area. We have had several volunteers help out in the restaurant as

well. Among those volunteers were Paulette Brumfield, Bev Vatter, Linda Desentz, and Charlene Tosi, not to mention many others.

The trustees, and several volunteers cook and serve dinner to the members every Monday between 4:00 p.m. and 8: p.m. A special thanks to those who have volunteered with that as well as it has proven to be a Big Success!! Don’t miss out!! Come join us!!!

You may have noticed a few changes around the bar. We have new jukeboxes in both the upstairs and downstairs bars, and we have two members volunteering as bartenders on Mondays, thank you so much Rhonda Alexander and Melissa Hopkins!! The Tiki Bar will be in full force this year. Come spend your summer evenings with us on the patio. Again, we have several volunteers who help around the bar whether it is emptying trash, clearing off tables, or restocking.

We Thank You!!!As always, we look forward to serving you this year! Our lodge is one of the best lodges in the nation, please come and enjoy what the lodge has to offer.

Hey June,

Don’t make it bad, take a sad round and make it better…..

With May gone and everybody’s game in good shape from “all” their practice, we are loaded with events for Jude, sorry, June.

There are 3 Elk tournaments scheduled this month:1. The Men’s Orange Ball and Ladies Odd /

Even will be Saturday the 8th with 5 rounds at sign-up needed at the Elks course.

2. Saturday the 22nd is the Men’s and Ladies Yahtzee Tournament.

3. Ending the month on Saturday and Sunday the 29th and 30th is the Member / Member.

We also have 6 scrambles to contend with throughout the month, so I will post signs in advance to inform everyone of the times and whether it will affect our normal play.

Lastly is our Junior Golf Camp, held on Mon. Tues. Wed. the 24th, 25th and 26th from 8:00 till 12:30 and we never turn down volunteers to help with the animals, I mean, young adults. Oh, you know I’m only kidding, mostly.

So you can wait till the day of an event and say, “I didn’t know that was today,” OR you can go to the Elks.org: lodge #51 and peruse our website for weekly, monthly and yearly information. You’ll find a lot more detail and not have to worry about finding out about golf events at the club at the last minute.

Remember, to practice more with your heart, then you can start to make it better, better, better. Nah nah nah….
