PARTNER PROFILEDiscovering True Wealth

- An unexpected strategyWhen businesses fail, owners often fall into crippling debt. But Bob and Pam were different: they plunged into debt when Bob’s computer con-sulting business thrived. As they spent freely, their debt spiraled up and so did the stress on their relationship. Bob and Pam will never for-get the night they faced facts and added up all their debt—a whopping $700,000. They cried out to God, drastically cut their living expenses, and took the unique step of increasing their giving. “It seemed like the more we gave, the more our debt went away,” remembers Pam. Seven years later, she and Bob paid off the last of their debt and now see their increased blessing as an oppor-tunity for giving even more as CBN partners. “When you are obedient with what He gives you,” says Pam, “He blesses you.”

Eric Liddell: Champion of Conviction

This fascinating documentary presents the details of Eric’s life, who was perhaps best known as an athlete in the 1924 Olympics, as depicted in the Academy Award-winning film, “Chariots of Fire.” His story is told by David McCasland, author of Eric Liddell: Pure Gold, Eric’s daughter Patricia, and Rev. John Keddie, consultant on “Chariots of Fire,” along with fellow pris-oners from the internment camp in China.

Growing up, Eric was a gifted athlete, excel-ling in rugby and later in track. He entered the 1924 Olympics in Paris and was favored to win the 100-meter race. But when he learned that he would have to race on Sunday, he refused. In-stead, he competed in other races and still brought home gold for Scotland.

Now a national hero, Eric announced his intentions to go to China as a missionary. There he taught Chemistry and oversaw the school’s sports pro-grams, sharing his faith at sporting events. He later married, then left teaching to become an evangelist. By 1941, China was becoming more unstable and Japan was increasing its control. Concerned for his family’s safety, he sent them off to Canada while he remained in China. It wasn’t long until the Japanese began moving people into internment camps. There, Eric became friend and mentor to 300 children, many of whom were separated from their missionary parents. Fellow prisoners observed as he rose early each day to read and pray. He continued living out his faith in the camp and was admired and respected by all. In 1944, however, he began showing signs of a possible brain tumour and died the following year. The ERIC LIDDELL STORY is a DVD which is part of the Torchlighter animation series, available from the online store of www.go-tell.org or from all good bookstores (trade enquiries - Brettian Productions). Also available from the same sources is CHINA CRY plus hundreds of others.

Her story is wrapped up within one of the most incredible marvels in all world history; how the Christian church survived under repressive atheistic communism in China. It did more than survive. It thrived and multiplied. We can better under-stand those heroic Chinese Christians through Nora’s story.

God’s Peace The secret to God’s guidance

Ships, planes and cars now have modern guidance systems that enable precise navigation on a journey. But long before humans invented this technology, God created a wonderful navigational system to guide His children.

We find it in Colossians 3:15, which says, Let the peace of God rule in your hearts. Here, rule means to be an “arbiter” or “umpire.” We should let God’s peace be an umpire in our hearts, arbitrating our actions. How does this work?

When we accept Jesus as Savior, our sins are forgiven: we are in right relationship with God and we experience a glorious peace that can only come from Him. Jesus tells us in John 14:27, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives….

His peace is a down payment on heaven, giving us a glimpse of eternity. It is also God’s key to guidance—leading, motivating and guiding us from within.

When faced with a decision, we should listen carefully for God’s voice saying, This is the way, walk in it (Isaiah 30:21). If we go the wrong way, the peace of Christ begins to lift and we don’t feel quite right. The umpire is saying, “You’ve just struck out.”

We simply need to retrace our steps and take the other course, and the peace is there. His peace also lifts if we sin, and it returns as we repent. God’s navigation system is giving us the guidance we need to make wise choices.

As we follow the Lord’s leading and walk in the light of His Word each day, we can continuously have His peace. It is the joy of our salvation.

A SAFE PLACE FOR THULIMama Anna runs a day care centre and orphan-age, supported by CBN. She is popular in the com-munity; everyone knows she loves taking care of others!

One night Anna was woken by loud knocks on her window. She found a scared Thuli, just 12 years old, who had run away from home because her grand-mother was abusing her. Thuli had bruises all over her body,

and was traumatized. Since her parents died some time ago, she had been living with her abusive grandmother. Thuli says she would hide away from her grandmother weekly, knowing that a beating was on the way! For a few years she lived like this, until the night she ran for help to Mama Anna. Anna runs a cen-tre for orphaned children supported by Orphan’s Promise of CBN. Anna took her in, and soon the police and social workers granted Anna guardianship over Thuli. They knew she’d be safe there, with Mama Anna and the other care workers who love her, and friends she considers brothers and sisters. Thuli’s future isn’t a scary place anymore – thanks to your support! _____________________________________ UPCOMING EVENTS 6-8 Sep -Missions Fest at Hatfield Church North, in Pta. The 13th and last episode of the 1st season of the new SUPERBOOK will be complete in January. After a release on TV (DV), the DVD series will be ready for release in RSA early in 2013. Listen to the re-port of a parent of a 4-year-old boy who responded to a sneak preview of the Giant Adventure episode: “Levi didn’t just want to look and act like David, he announced that he wanted to be anointed with oil like David! Our family’s pastor made sure that Levi understood the mean-ing of this, and that Sunday in church … he called Levi up to the front and anointed him with oil and prayed a beauti-ful prayer over him.” This little 4-year-old says, “You have to ask people if they know Jesus. I definitely know Him, because I know He’s in my heart and I re-ally love Him.” We are inviting people in-volved in ministry to children to a Children’s Ministries Fest on the afternoon of Monday 29th October. If you or others you know are available to come and see the trailer and some footage of an episode of the new Super-book, at a venue in Bedfordview, please send names and contact details for us to send a proper invitation. Come and hear how you can be involved in an excit-ing curriculum involving chil-dren’s ministry in your church or primary school. Call: 011-622-4608; Write: [email protected])

When Eric Liddell (of “Chariots of Fire” fame) was chosen by his country for the Olympic Games in 1924, he was faced with a choice of his own – to com-promise his conviction or stand firm in faith. Christians participating in much earlier Olympics were faced with an even greater dilemma. The opening ceremo-ny consisted of competitors walking in procession to the village of Piera, where priests offered an animal sacrifice to Zeus. Then the athletes participated in a religious ceremony of purification and large numbers of animals were sacrificed before the colossal statue of Zeus, in the Olympia. The athletes swore allegiance to the Greek gods and specifically to Zeus.

Our choices are not as drastic as in that Greek era, but in this sin-polluted world we still have to run the race of life with in-tegrity and non-compromise, choosing not to “run with uncer-tainty” but, like Paul, we “fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). May we ever “press toward the goal for the

prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”. (Philippians 3: 14). Besides that prize, I believe the greatest honour is to win trophies of grace for the Master. Trophies like H**di who came to our missionary conference in Ke-nya as a guest of one of our missionaries, heard the message of the Cross for the first time and for a month kept asking questions of our missionary who answered from the Bible. H**di could not resist the gospel and made Jesus Lord of his life. Countless other stories could be told. We shall continue to present the goodness of God and His salvation so that men and women, boys and girls come to faith and repentance. Your support of all our endeavours in Jesus’ name will continue to win such trophies as He gives grace.

Turning Point International is a flagship magazine program produced by CBN’s Holly Flood and hosted by Muyiwa. The team came to RSA in June and completed the stand-ups of 16 shows in four interesting locations in and around Jo’burg.

I would like to encurage all leaders of children’s ministries in the Gauteng area to take advatage of the Children’s Min-istries Fest on 29th October (see Upcoming Events on page 3). Call (011) 622-4608 to receive your official invitation. At the Fest you will be introduced to the new imagined Super-book series, the best gospel tool for children in years!
