USE IT OR LOSE IT I wonder what that third servant in the Gospel was doing all that time, after he buried the talent he was given. Probably nothing. What strikes me is that the word for money in this reading is “talent,” which in our language is an ability or skill. Maybe this parable can remind us to use our abilities and not let them go to waste. A person might be strong and fast, but if she exercises and practices, she could be a great athlete. The same with spiritual gifts. Just having one doesn’t make you a saint. So how do you know what gifts you have? First, ask God in your prayers to show you what gifts you have been given. Read the scriptures, especially the Acts of the Apostles or the Letters of Paul (e.g., 1 Corinthians 12:1–11). Listen humbly to friends or loved ones who can tell you what strengths they see in you. Second, look for ways to use your gifts. Check the parish bulletin or website or your diocesan newspaper for activities and organizations that you could take part in. Hospitals, schools, shelters, and nursing homes frequently offer opportunities for volunteers. Or you may see a need for some service that you can get started in the parish or community. Just remember that you are called to service by your baptism and confirmation. Don’t bury that calling by procrastinating or being afraid to try. Remember the “useless servant” with the one talent who was fearful and lazy (Matthew 25:25–26). At least he can remind us to use it or lose it. Tom Schmidt, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co Today’s Gospel: Matthew 25: 14 - 30

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful in small matters, I will give you great
responsibilities.”- MATTHEW 25:21
God calls us to nurture and develop the gifts He has given us and then generously return a portion with increase. He
doesn’t want us to waste or hoard the gifts He has given us. He expects us to grow our gifts, use them wisely and be
generous with them. Unfortunately, many of us are not generous in proportion to all that God has given us.
We are very grateful for your continued support, especially through this health crisis.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize everyone is facing difficult times. Thank you to all those who are giving
electronically, mailing in their donations, or dropping them off in the mailbox. These are challenging times and we
thank you for finding a way to remain faithful in your giving to the Lord and your church. Through you, our church
mission can continue to thrive and grow. Your gifts allow God’s work to be done in our midst, in our community and in
the world around us.
If you do not participate in online giving, would you prayerfully consider signing up. Click on the “About Us” tab on our
website (www.hscc.us) and go to “Giving and Donations” page to enroll in one of our online giving programs.

ADVENT CONFESSIONS
There will be individual confessions held on three consecutive Saturdays leading up to Christmas. December 5th and 12th: 3:30pm - 4:00pm December 19th: 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Advent means “Coming” in Latin. We anticipate
Christ’s coming. We use the four weeks of
Advent to prepare and remember the real
meaning of Christmas.
Confession is also a good way to integrate the
spirit of the Advent season:
A season of hope—A season of great joy.

Third Grade is the Charm at All Saints
Students in Mrs. Blaha’s and Ms. Cash’s third grade classrooms are overjoyed to be back in the classroom with their friends and learning from their teachers. At the beginning of November, we celebrated ‘Halfway to 100’ Day, 50 days of continuous in person instruction this school year. We are continuing to practice our social distancing and rocking our masks.
In religion, students have been learning to say the
rosary, having made their own rosaries. We
enjoyed going outside to the Rosary Garden at
All Saints to pray the rosary together. The students
are also learning worship and liturgy.
