The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary August 15—Holyday of Obligation

Our Lady remained on earth for a few years after the Ascension of her Son. She was the comforter and helper of the Apostles, but she yearned to be reunited with her Son. When

she did die, her immaculate body did not decay. Mary had been free from Original Sin. Therefore after her death, by God's power, her body was reunited with her soul and

taken with triumph into Heaven, accompanied by a host of Angels.

The Assumption of Mary is a dogma of our Faith. It was dogmatically defined by Pope Pius XII on 1 November 1950,

in the apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus by exercising papal infallibility.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR MASS ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, AT 9:00 AM

Followed by a Waffle Breakfast in Celebration Hall.

GOSPEL REFLECTION

The 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time

August 12—John 6:41-51

Jesus is the bread of life. He gives us his Body & Blood as

bread so that we may have eternal life. When we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist, our lives begin to reflect the reality that our communion with Jesus prepares in us. Eucharist leads us to live as people of the promise, confi-dent that we will one day share the fullness of life with God.

How might we live differently knowing that the

Bread of Life enables us to be “bread” for others?

Would you like to share your beautiful flowers with Holy Family? You can sign up for a weekend in the vestibule. Please bring your flowers on Saturday mornings. Vases are available for your use. If you do not have access to

a key, you can borrow one from the Parish Office by Friday. If you would like help with arranging, please contact: Tim Kain at 503-777-2271 or Kathie Robison at 971-409-3590

Request a Bequest In estate planning, we consider our family’s needs first.

One way to ensure their security and to create a legacy at Holy Family Parish is to consider gifting a percentage of

your estate or of an asset. This way, your gifts are propor-tional to loved ones and to institutions you cherish, like

Holy Family. Your bequest can make a big impact. For more information, please call Rebecca at

503-774-1428 x103 or [email protected].
