Lending color to the pageantry of the Academic Convo ation are the academic robes and hoods worn by the faculty. TWs regalia reaches back 1nto the medieval ages when it served a functional as well as an. ornamental role, separating the learned men from other groups and offerlllg warmth and pro ­tection.

Essen ally. undergraduates wear the black robes Wlth the white collars.
