Bangladesh Military Contingent in Kuwait launches its magazine Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait celebrates ‘Armed Forces Day’ KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The Defence Wing of the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh in Kuwait hosted a reception at the JW Marriott (Al-Jahra Ballroom) to cele- brate the 48th anniversary of ‘Armed Forces Day’ of Bangladesh. The function was attended by HE the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kuwait S.M. Abul Kalam, Chief of Military Education, Kuwait Armed Forces, Major General Walid Eabdal Latif Al Surdii and Defense Attaché of Bangladesh Embassy, Brigadier General Mohammad Abu Naser were present along with many guests from across the diplomatic, civil and military society. Chief of Military Education, Kuwait Armed Forces, Major General Walid Eabdal Latif Al Surdii attended as the special Guest on behalf of the Chief of Staff, Kuwait Armed Forces. The event was also attended by diplomats and defence attachés of different embassies, officers of Kuwait Armed Forces, local elite, other dignitaries, and officers of Bangladesh Military Contingents, media personal and members of Bangladesh community. On this special occasion the President, the Prime Minister and Defense Minister, and Chiefs of three services of Bangladesh have sent their greetings and special messages high- lighting the great contribution of Bangladesh Armed Forces in the national and international arena. Strategic Speaking on the occasion, HE the Ambassador said Kuwait and Bangladesh are strategic partners in different fields including military. The relations and bond between these two countries are inseparable and historically con- nected. The Ambassador thanked and expressed his deep gratitude to HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and his government on the occasion of 48th Armed Forces Day of Bangladesh. The Ambassador also expressed with great respect and honor, the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, valiant soldiers, men and women in the Independence War of Bangladesh. He also mentioned the contribution of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives for the liberation and reconstruction of Kuwait, UN Peace Keeping Missions as well as for the sovereignty of Bangladesh. One of the important messages read during the evening by Bangladesh Defense Attaché Brigadier General Mohammad Abu Naser was ‘Today Bangladesh Armed Forces is more matured and strong, and remains committed to protect people not only at home but also glob- ally standing beside other armed forces’. Abu Naser said the day is significant for Bangladesh armed forces for the fact that the jour- ney of Bangladesh Armed Forces began through the glorious liberation war in 1971 during the most difficult time that Bangladesh faced. He went to say the Bangladesh Armed Forces are committed to peace and this spirit had helped Bangladesh climb new heights to protect the people not only at home but at the global level in cooperation with other armed forces and “this is the reason why the Bangladesh armed forces have footprints in many countries around the world as part of the United Nation including Kuwait.” Of the Bangladesh-Kuwait relationship, Brigadier Naser mentioned the contributions of Bangladesh Military Contingent (BMC) supporting Kuwait Armed Forces in different fields like mine clearance, explosive ordnance disposal, medical, maintenance and service support since 1991. Sacrifices He called the Kuwait-Bangladesh friendship deep-rooted. He disclosed 80 Bangladeshi sol- diers made supreme sacrifices during libera- tion and reconstruction phase of Kuwait. On the contribution of Bangladesh Armed Forces to United Nations, the Defense Attaché said Bangladesh is one of the countries contribut- ing the largest number of troops to the UN Peacekeeping Operations. He disclosed about 6,520 Bangladeshi peacekeepers are presently deployed in differ- ent countries and until now 167,341 Bangladeshi peacekeepers have participated in missions worldwide during which 127 brave sons of Bangladesh sacrificed their lives and 215 were injured in the noble cause of estab- lishing global peace. The Bangladesh Military Contingent in Kuwait also organized a day long program at their Headquarters at the Sabhan Military Area to celebrate the event. The event was observed with solemnity and festivity. The program was attended by Ambassador Abul Kalam, Major General Ali A. Al-Shanfa, psc, Assistant Chief of Staff (Supply & Logistics Department) of Kuwait Armed Forces in addition to the Kuwait Armed Forces personnel, officials of Bangladesh Embassy, Defence Attachés of various countries and civil elite. At the outset, Commander BMC, Brigadier General Md Abdul Majid, ndc, psc, G deliv- ered his welcome speech followed by a dis- play of band, physical training and march past by BMC soldiers to the delight of the guests. The main focus was the photo gallery. BMC Magazine 2019 was unveiled during the program. The program ended with a sumptu- ous lunch.
