constantly improve the artistic quality of theOrchestra. More funds will be needed to attract high-caliber musicians and to retain them longer. In order to be competitive, Orchestra Kentuckywill need to increase salaries and travel pay forthe musicians and increase the amount of workfor which they are hired.

engage better-known guest artists and guestconductors to appear with the Orchestra.

establish a cash reserve fund to prepare for theinevitability of having to pay a music director’ssalary. The current music director, Jeffrey Reed, does not accept a salary.

invest in an upgrade to the orchestra’s website soit becomes the central sales and communication tool for the Orchestra.

There are several ways to invest in the future of OrchestraKentucky’s 15th Anniversary Endowment Campaign.

CASH CONTRIBUTIONS allow the donor to receive the tax benefits of a gift in the year it is made. Outright gifts of cash are the most direct and immediate way of helping Orchestra Kentucky in this important undertaking.

A majority of commitments are made as PLEDGES which may be paid over as many as five or more years. Pledges are preferable to the Orchestra because such gifts permit donors to consider larger, on-going amounts. Pledges are the most popular form of commitment as they allow donors to best manage their giving at high levels.

replenish much-needed equipment such as music stands and lights, as well as othercapital expenditures such as computers.

expand program offerings in the region. This will allow Orchestra Kentucky to travel more frequently as a full orchestra to perform in other communities that do not have an orchestra.

offer more competitive salaries to adminis-trative staff, upgrading part-time positions to full-time when appropriate, and adding staff to accommodate tasks associated with con-tinued growth, such as a marketing director.

support on-going programs, increase the number of scholarships offered annually by the String Academy, and assist in maintaining the facility which houses the String Academy.

invest more heavily in cutting-edge social media opportunities such as those offered by Facebook and Twitter.

Gifts of appreciated SECURITIES or other marketable assets are welcome. A gift of appreciated securities either publicly traded or from a private company, may provide significant tax advantages whencompared to gifts of cash. The donor may deduct the current “fair market value” of the donated securities as a charitable gift and may be exempt from the capital gains tax on the appreciation. Unless by other arrangement, donated marketable assets will be liquidated to provide the most immediate benefit of your gift.

Gifts of REAL ESTATE or other property may be acceptable, and are subject to final acceptance by the Orchestra Kentucky board ofdirectors. All costs of appraisal or valuation are at the donor’s expense.

LIFE INSURANCE When Orchestra Kentucky is named as sole and irrevocable owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, the market value (usually the cash surrender value) of the policy is deductible as a charitable gift.

Bequeathed ESTATE GIFTS may be accepted as well as Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts. A bequest serves as a lasting tribute to a person’s life and to the work of Orchestra Kentucky. A donor may leave a bequest in the form of cash, appreciated securities or fund shares, bonds, real or personal property. There are several types of bequests to consider—unrestricted general, percentage of estate, specific bequest of property, residuary, designated and contingent.

DONORBENEFITS• tax deductibility

• name placement on permanent plaque at Orchestra Kentucky office

• opportunity to fund a named chair in the orchestra
