1.2.4.1 Notes on the Proportional Amplifier
Note!
The proportional amplifier may only be removed when made dead.
On delivery, two adjustment protocols incl. the preset values and the inserted jumpersare attached to the proportional amplifier (to be found in the inside door pocket).
In case of a new installation, the jumpers are to be checked -- and, if required, to be cor-rected -- in accordance with this protocol.
In the normal case, the values to be adjusted have been preset by the factory, providedthat the information on the solenoid valves used was known before delivery of the equip-ment.

2.2.1.1 Setpoint SpecificationThe solenoid current is adjusted by specifying a setpoint.
The setpoint can be specified either externally or internally.
External: Setpoint specification via setpoint input terminal z20.Internal: Call--up of 1 to 4 adjustable setpoints via relays.
Depending on the version of the proportional amplifier, an external setpoint can be spe-cified in the form of a voltage or current signal. The current input has an internal resistance of 500 Ohm, such that for an external set-point of 0 to 20 mA, the internal voltage level (which can be measured at MS) is 0 to10V.

The setpoint trimmers are connected to the internal reference voltage via jumpers insuch a way as to allow a voltage of 0 to 10V to be adjusted.Polarity can be changed by re--positioning the jumper concerned.
Note:To provide an external setpoint specification for the setpoint trimmers, the jumper con-nection concerned must be removed. The permissible voltage range is 0 to 15V.

2.2.1.2 Modulation LimitationThe trimming potentiometers AB A for solenoid A and AB B for solenoid B can be usedto attenuate the setpoint--specific modulation range of the power stage. It is thus possible to utilize only a sub--area of the valve characteristic (high resolution).

2.2.1.3 Zero--point Lift Function(only with proportional amplifiers for 2 solenoids)
The zero--point lift function enables the solenoid current for each solenoid to be liftedeven with extremely small setpoints; separate adjustment is provided via the trimmingpotentiometers Zero A and Zero B.The zero--point lift is always operative only for the particular solenoid which is subject tosetpoint control.

2.2.1.4 Zero--point Lift Suppression(only with proportional amplifiers for 2 solenoids)
The zero--point lift suppression is used to suppress the zero--point lift for setpoint specifi-cations in the range from approx. + 6% of the limit value (+10V / + 20 mA). This preventsthe solenoids from being activated alternately by very small setpoint fluctuations in thezero--range.

2.2.1.5 Utilization of a Sub--area of the Valve Characteristic(Example)
The zero--point lift and the modulation limitation make it possible to utilize sub--areas ofthe valve characteristic in the normal setpoint range. In the example below, the working range of the proportional valve with the characteristicQA = f(IA) or QA = f(w), see Figure a, is to equal only 20 -- 60% of the nominal rangewith a setpoint specification of 0 to +10V.
Adjustment:-- Set lift by means of trimmer Zero A in such a way that the lower range limit for QA
is reached at w = 0V (see Figure c).
-- Reduce the modulation limitation by means of trimmer AB A in such a way that theupper range limit for QA is reached with w = 10V (see Figure c).

The procedure is similar for the utilization of sub--areas of the other characteristic branch(solenoid B).

2.2.1.6 Ramp ShaperThe ramp shaper ensures a steady rise in the output voltage when the input voltagerises abruptly. After the elapse of the manipulating time, the input and output voltages are of identicalvalue. The ramp shaper fitted on the PCB enables two ramps to be separately adjustedand selected by means of relays. These relays can be activated either via an SPS control or via parallel activation with thesetpoint. The adjustment of ramp manipulating time is linear.
The jumpers enable internal or external operation to be selected separately for eachramp.
For internal operation, the trimmers on the proportional amplifier are used.

3.3 Description
3.3.1 Proportional Amplifier, Type 131--037.01The Proportional Amplifier, Type 131--037.01 makes available a DC output signal for ac-tivating the solenoids for proportional valves. In accordance with this output current, thevalves ensure stepless control of the oil delivery volume for the steering gear pumps.
The external set value is given by the analog set rudder signal.
The internal set value specifications can be configured and are activated via the steeringcontrol signals (port/starboard) applied to the input side.
The proportional amplifier is designed as a single board and includes the following cha-racteristics:
-- Type acc. to DIN 41612-- 24V supply voltage-- Power consumption 35VA as a maximum-- 32--pole connector-- Adjustable lift function-- Short--circuit--proof and ground--fault--proof final stages-- Current limitation to max. 1600 mA each direction.

3.3.2 Power Supply UnitThe power supply unit consists of
-- transformer M1-- rectifier and-- fuse
From the input voltage, the power supply unit produces the internal supply voltage of24V DC (unregulated) for the proportional amplifier. The power supply unit is fused on its secondary by 3.15A (slow).
3.3.3 Relay D1The relay D1 monitors the 24V DC output voltage of the proportional amplifier and signa-lizes voltage failure alarm via a floating contact.
3.3.4 Relay D2An externally connected operating mode selector permits change--over from follow--upcontrol (FU) or AUTO to non--follow--up control (NFU). By that, the relay D2 switches R1for current limitation into the output circuit.
3.3.5 Relay D3Not used here!
