    1. Welcome to our service project, Fifty Hearts, One Dream! 2. I am David Tong, [Situation & DF 8]and I am in charge of this project. [DF 8] 3. Thank you very much for coming to volunteer! [DF 2]

    4. I am sure all of you can still vividly recall the slogan for the 2008 Beijing Olympics One World, OneDream. [DF 9]5. Indeed, the slogan has given us some inspiration when choosing the name of this service project, FiftyHearts, One Dream. [DF 9]6. Fifty Hearts refers to the number of target participants. [DF 9]7. And we say One Dream because those we are trying to help all have one common dream to be

valued members of Hong Kongs multi-ethnic community! [DF 9]8. We hope, therefore, that our service project will help new South Asian immigrants integrate into HongKong society [DF 8] and9. will raise peoples awareness of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. [DF 8]

    10. Now, I know that you are all very responsible volunteers. However, I would like to emphasise againthat

    11. your attitude towards our participants is extremely important. I hope that you will all12. treat them with love and respect. Remember that13.you not only represent Eutopia Hong Kong, but the community of Hong Kong as a whole.

    14. We hope you enjoy this service programme, [DF 2]15. and thank you very much again for your help!

    1. The mentally/physically disabled may feel neglected by society.2. Another problem is that they find it difficult to make a living. For example, Mr L, whose left arm wasamputated, has been jobless for four years.3. We will therefore try to organise regular recreational activities for them to make them feel that they are

part of a community.4. We will also organise courses to teach them work skills.

    5. Teenage drug abuse has become a serious problem in Hong Kong6. For example, a fifteen-year-old boy, who we interviewed, has been taking drugs for three years. Besides

drug abuse, however,7. drug trafficking is becoming an increasingly serious issue among teenagers.8. To tackle this issue, we plan to organise some mentorship schemes;9. this will allow students get advice from people who have more life experience.

    10. All too often, wives are being battered by their husbands.11. Many children are also victims of abuse at home. For instance, a newspaper story recently talked about asix-year-old girl that was frequently beaten by her father, who has a drinking problem.12. The first thing we would like to do is set up temporary shelters for the victims.13. In the long run, we could also provide emotional counselling services for families that have experienceddomestic violence.

    14. A lot of new immigrants may feel like outsiders in Hong Kong. This was true of15. a boy from India, who said that he felt really out of place when he first came to Hong Kong.16. In order to help new immigrants, we would like to offer classes to teach new immigrants Cantonese. 17.Moreover, we would hold talks on job market adaptation for them.18. There would also be courses introducing Hong Kongs unique culture to help them integrate into HongKong society more easily.
