Re: Radio Bulgaria in B-11 season.So yet another shortwave site that will go dark on Saturday. And it seems here we finally have the apparent reasonfor testing Kostinbrod on some Padarsko (a.k.a. Plovdiv) frequencies back in May: To make a decision about whichsite to keep.

These 2 x 100 kW transmitters each appear to be a pair of 50 kW Sneg units, always run in pairs with combinersalready delivered with the transmitters (the 4 x 100 kW at Koenigs Wusterhausen were likewise 8 Sneg transmittersas well). If I recall correct the DRM, which they will now apparently dump altogether, has finally been run with thesingle 250 kW transmitter at Kostinbrod, apparently not reflected yet in this photo gallery (which suggests that the"100 kW" are rather 70 kW, if the inscription is no misunderstanding):<http://www.predavatel.com/bg/1/kostinbrod#rps>

In fact there used to be another "Sofia" shortwave site, Stolnik, with at least one transmitter identical to onesinstalled at Brovary near Kiev. And Padarsko will see a cost-cutting change as well: They will primarily use the three 250 kW transmitter and fallback upon only one of the 500 kW rigs as the fourth unit they need to run this schedule, in some cases just to makean immediate beam switch at the hour which the antenna matrix switch presumably does not allow, so they willrather cut one transmitter off and immediately after that another one on the same frequency but another antenna on.And here the powers are already for years officially reduced to 170 and 300, respectively, kW. Have been monitoring here looking for the return of Ozy Radio (Australia), but was surprised today to find insteadthe reactivation of AIR. A new transmitter? Much stronger than I recall hearing them in the past. Best reception onlypossible when the much stronger Beibu Bay Radio (BBR) had a segment of just talking, as when they played musicwas almost impossible to make out AIR.

Played mostly slow tempo songs (sounded very much like religious songs?); 1220 UT news in English (Maoistcombatants still in camps and unrest in Nepal, etc.); back to same type of songs; 1300 UT "All India Radio,Aizawl";news in assume Hindi with another ID at 1307 UT. LIBYA - 11600 Transmitter at Sabrata on air approx. 1558 UT Oct 23, powerful fair signal noted in Europe,S=9+10dBm, station started with a test tone signal of 1038 Hertz til 16.06:35 UT, also at 16.07:55 UT many Tripolisand Libya IDs in French given.

But different to the huge TX carrier power and the superb test tone signal, the original program feed from Tripolisbroadcasting house to Sabrata was opposite quality of small bandwidth and little undermodulated. Noted increasedaudio signal level later at 1637 UT. A lot of western waltzing and symphonic music played. Listen to attachedrecording of some pieces between 1558 and 1608 UT. Must be delayed an hour since local time is now 9 pm (UT +7). And Udon musthave been late, making the beam switch from 54 degrees for the 1330-1400 UT Thai broadcast to 132 degrees forthe 1400-1430 UT English. Should have done so before the IS/ID break. UNITED KINGDOM - BBC to open vast radio archive online - November 3rd, 2011 - 12:50 UTC by AndySennitt.

The BBC is to introduce a new radio website, codenamed “Audiopedia”, to contain virtually its entire archive ofspeech radio programmes going back to the 1940s. The service is being developed for launch ‘within the next 12months’, said Tim Davie, director of BBC Audio and Music. “Audiopedia”, its working title, may yet become its formalname, he added.

9990 WTWW-2 - George McClintock advises at 1615 UT Oct 18 that his third transmitter has finally started testingon-air, as needed on this frequency daytime, and will be on 5080 kHz at night (or alternate 5095 kHz; both haveQRM problems). 9990 kHz running 12 kW, open carrier only. Later will test with // PPP programming as on 9479 /5755 kHz, and maybe do a live special with Ted Randall playing oldies and taking reception report phone calls aswas done with #1. Several small problems with #2 still need to be worked out. I have urged George not to use 9990kHz, due to proximity of WWV 10000 which is likely to suffer, as well as to 9980 WWCR. “Sports Weekend” and “Roots” with several IDs. Fair with //7220 (Galbeni) also fair but //9530 (Tiganesti) quite poor.6165.0 CHAD. Radio Chad, *0427-0434 Sep 23, open carrier after Radio Netherlands sign off until Balafon IS heard at poor to fair level. NHK World opened with

Spanish announcements by a woman announcer at 0429 with Chad now weakly in background. Chad’s orchestra National Anthem could be heard underNHK opening music. A man with French talk could be heard but not much else after that point as NHK began the news.

7200.0 SUDAN.Radio Omdurman, 0253-0319 Sep 21, Arabic vocals, 5+1 time pips at 0301 followed by man in Arabic with ID and news. More vocals after thenews at 0310. Fair.

7245.0 MAURITANIA. Radio Mauritanie, 0654-0721 Sep 26, man announcer with talk in Arabic followed by Middle Eastern music at 0701. A man and womanalternated talking followed by another man with station ID at 0702. Into news program with a man announcer at 0703 which ended at 0716. Musicprogramming followed. Good signal.

7360.0 FRENCH GUIANA Family Radio, 2358-0000 Oct 18, looking for English program but heard only familiar theme music at very poor level before beingconsumed in the noise.

7425.0 ALBANIA.Radio Tirana, *0228-0257* Oct 18, IS followed by opening of English program, some vocal selections, cultural features and Sports Round-Up.Excellent signal although audio somewhat muffled. sign off. Fair but //11670 (Bangalore) was very good.

9580.0 GABON.Africa No. 1, 2136- 2212 Nov 4, an old favorite noted with a program apparently devoted to Lionel Ritchie hits songs, many of them live concertversions, hosted by a man announcer in French. Four time pips at 2200 followed by ID and news. Fair.

9705.0 NIGER. La Voix du Sahel, 2248-2258* Sep 14, male vocal selection prior to man announcer speaking in French language. Brief flute music at 2255followed by choral National Anthem. Tone after anthem before carrier cut. Fair.

9780.0 SRI LANKA.Voice of America – Iranawila, 0100-0117 Oct 13, opening of English program with ID and a man announcer with the news. Poor to fairreception.

9820.0 BRAZIL. Radio 9 de Julho, 0034-0112 Oct 7, mix of Portuguese talks by a man announcer and musical programming. Poor to fair. 9830.0 AUSTRIA.Radio Austria International, *0030-0057* Oct 13, sudden on with woman announcer followed by short segment of instrumental music and a

man announcer with News in German language. Many remote reports and some English audio clips of Bidden and Clinton talking about Iranianassassination plot in Washington, DC of Saudi diplomat. Good.

9890.0 THAILAND.Radio Thailand World Service, *1157-1209 Sep 22, open carrier followed by ID, IS and English announcement for World Service mentioningthe next program was in Malaysian language. After brief musical interlude, Malaysian program began with ID and news by a man announcer. Poor to fair.

11670.0 INDIA. All India Radio – Bangaluru, 2211-2226 Sep 28, English program with commentary followed by ID and sports program. Good signal. // 9445(Bangaluru) was also good.

11710.0 CHINA. China National Radio via Beijing, 2312-2336 Nov 4, man announcer in Chinese with news features. Series of announcements at 2319 and againat 2329 with ID before resuming news features. Fair.

11715.0 INDIA (Goa). All India Radio – Panaji, 2154-2230* Oct 22, Indian vocals to 2159 man announcer General Overseas Service ID at end of program. Newsat 2200 by a woman announcer with headlines followed by stories. ID at 2205 and again at 2210 with end of news. Commentary by a man about US-Pakistan Drift Widens”. Cultural Roundup and light flute music before sign off.Fair

11905.0 SRI LANKA.Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (presumed), 0126-0227 Oct 18, nice program of Hindi vocals hosted by a woman announcer with briefHindi talk between selections. Nothing close to an ID but have heard this signing on in the past. Fair.

15275.0 THAILAND.Radio Thailand, 0013-0029* Oct 12, promotional announcements, ID and news in English hosted by a man and woman announcer team. Fairto good signal and some flutter.

17745.0 PORTUGAL.Sudan Radio Service (presumed) – Sines, 1506-1537 Oct 15, vocals and instrumentals with a handful of short Arabic announcements. NoEnglish segment noted. Poor to fair in noisy conditions.

25990.0 USA. KSCS – Ft. Worth, TX, 1923-1950 Nov 5, thanks to Brian Alexander tip noted with continuous country music vocals with some very brief femaleannouncer talk. Fair on peaks with very deep fades.

One of the best tools I found out was the internet site <http://www.short-wave.info>. Just by entering thestation name, time and frequency it is possible to find out the details.
