Compared to last month: Holstein steers weighing under 500 lbs traded 3.00 – 8.00 higher. Holstein steers weighing over 500 lbs traded mostly 5.00 – 10.00 higher on comparable sales. Trading activity was active on very good buyer demand. The supply consisted of about 90% Holstein steers, 5% Jersey steers and the balance being Holstein heifers. About 28% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs. Next special Holstein feeder cattle auction will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014.

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: Slaughter lambs and feeder lambs had no test. Slaughter ewes were 9.00 lower and slaughter bucks traded 25.00 lower. Kid goats traded 7.00 higher on a thin test. Nannies/does traded 10.00 higher and bucks/billies traded 5.00 higher. Trade activity was moderate on moderate buyer demand. In the sheep supply 55% slaughter lambs and feeder lambs, 45% slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of 55% slaughter kids, 35% slaughter nannies, 10% slaughter billies and wethers and balance being replacement nannies. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, May 7, 2014Over 400 head of slaughter cattle were sold today with the market about $2-4 higher for bulls and beef cows, however the slaughter cow market was a bit softer. Demand for lean beef slaughter cows ranged from $104.50 -111.00/cwt. Fat beef cows were higher compared to last week, ranging from $108.00-118.00. Holstein slaughter cows were $1-2 lower with lean Holstein cows ranging $86.00-93.50, and fat Holstein cows averaging $96.50. Highlights include high quality, black hided, open, lean cows from Gill and Grover, and fat, smooth fleshed beef cows from Greeley. There were also two loads of good lean cows, as well as several nice bulls from UT who sold very well. BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE SALES:
