    Idle Mode

    The UE has no relation to UTRAN, only to CN. For data transfer, asignaling connection has to be established.

    UE camps on a cell

    It enables the UE to receive system information from the PLMN

    UE can monitor PICH of a cell for pagingThe idle mode tasks can be divided into three processes:

    PLMN selection and reselection

    Cell selection and reselection

    Location registration

    Connected Mode

    When UE is in connected modeThe UE position can be known on different levels:

    Cell level (CELL_DCH/CELL_FACH/CELL_PCH)

    UTRAN Registration Area (URA) level (URA_PCH)

    The UE can use different types of channels in connected mode

    Dedicated transport channels (CELL_DCH)

    Common transport channels (CELL_FACH)

    The CRNC owns the radio resources of a cell

    Dynamical control of power for dedicated channels, within limits admitted byCRNC, is done by the SRNC.

    Scheduling of data for dedicated channels is done by the SRNC, while forcommon channels it is done by the CRNC

    Cell setup

    The following parameters will be take to NODEB

    After receiving the AUDIT RESPONSEmessage from the NodeB RNC sends

    a CELL SETUP REQUEST message tothe NodeB Whether the conditions ofcell setup are fulfilled depends on thefollowing local cell information

    reported by the NodeB:

    Downlink power range

    Minimum spreading factor

    HSDPA cell capability of the NodeB

    High Speed Downlink SharedChannel (HS-DSCH) resourceinformation, which is used to set up

    an HSDPA cell

    Common transport channel andphysical channel information

    CCP and NCP information

    System information update

    The system information updateprocedure is performed for the NodeBto schedule and update the systeminformation segments, which arebroadcast on the Broadcast Channel

    (BCH), according to the parameters inthe SYSTEM INFORMATION UPDATEREQUEST message.

    If the system information is updated,the NodeB sends a SYSTEMINFORMATION UPDATE RESPONSE

    message.
