Module Objectives
Upon completion of this section, the trainee should be able to:
• List the checks, which should be performed on the turbine every 2 weeks.
• List the checks, which should be performed on the turbine every month.
• List 5 turbine checks, which should be made every 3 months.
• Describe 3 turbine checks, which must be made every 6 months.
• Describe 5 maintenance checks, which must be made, on the turbine once a
year.
• State how often the following tasks must be performed:• Verifying the correct functioning of the AMOT temperature elements;• Exchanging the hydraulic accumulator bladders and high pressure hoses;• Overhauling the jacking oil pumps.

Introduction
In addition to regular visual inspections and operational supervision, certain tasksmust be carried out at the intervals shown below. The results of the tests, checks, measurements, etc. should be recorded in a log.The list shows only highlights of important tasks. For full details, refer to specificmaintenance instructions in the Operation Manuals and Service DocumentationManuals supplied with your unit.
Routine Maintenance Schedules
Every Two Weeks
• Switch on stand-by equipment.
• Perform partial or full stroke tests on valves.
• Perform the simulated (electronic) overspeed test.
Every Month
• Inspect turbine insulation.
• Check pressure switches with the trip function.
• Check lube oil appearance and water content.
• Inspect packing; tighten as needed.
Every Three Months
• If applicable, check sliding behaviour; improve sliding properties by greasing.
• Check the clearances of down-holding and fixation elements.
• Check for proper contact to base plates.
• Compare actual valve strokes to control room indications.
• Measure seal air supply pressure after the orifice.
• Check the filling pressure of the hydraulic accumulators.
• If it is possible to do so during operation, test the fluid level switches.
•
Measure shaft current at the ground brush.

Every Six Months
•
Check the condition and setting of the steam piping hangers.• Grease the motor bearings according to instructions of the manufacturer.
• Tighten flanges, excluding the controlled, pre-stressed flanges.
Once a Year
• Check the pre-stress of the anchor bolts.
• Check turbine supervisory equipment for correct functioning and indication.
• Using an optical level, record foundation deflection.
• Record reference measurements on the spring-loaded foundations.
• Record gland clearances; shaft standstill is required.
• Using a vacuum, clean out all wire junction boxes and computer cabinets.
• Check contact of grounding cables.
• Measure shaft lift with jacking oil.
• Check the pedestal and gland seal system under pressure.
• Record control valve characteristics and compare them to commissioningvalues.
• Make an endoscopic inspection of turbine internals.
• Compare steam pressure readings to valve strokes and power output.
• Take a lube oil sample and have it analyzed in a laboratory according tospecification HTGD 90 117.
• Record reference measurements for the rotor/casing and casing/pedestals. Thisrequires a cold unit.
Other Maintenance Checks
• Verify the correct functioning of the AMOT temperature elements every 2-3years.
• Exchange hydraulic accumulator bladders and high pressure hoses every 3-4years.
• Overhaul the jacking oil pumps every 3-4 years.

Summary
This section list important maintenance tasks, outside the scope of overhauls, whichshould be at specified regular intervals.
To ensure that you understand the topic covered, review each question in theObjectives (page 4).
