His target was an executive-level position, and, as this iteration was updated to illustrate, he secured a position as Director of Sales at Prismatic Parking and has achieved rapid growth since onboarding. Looking at his professional trajectory prior to Prismatic, John only worked with two (2) firms over his 20+ year career, including spending the past decade with IAC Parking. As a result, despite his body of work, his resume had not been updated since 2008. So, John and I worked in lockstep to craft a document that showcased key achievements and testimonials visually, evocatively transmitted his accomplishments textually, and piqued key gatekeepers’ interest at every touchpoint. In terms of color, John cited Faber Birren’s color theory. He mentioned that Faber is an anagram of Farbe which means color in German. He was specific about his brand color and even sent me Hex Number: 4E9493 (“Dark Cyan”). Among other instances of Dark Cyan, I employed it as a background accent for section subdivisions, font color for his title and company names, and tone in dashboards. Furthermore, John wanted graphic designer quality visuals, which would delight and drive the reader’s engagement. For instance, the dashboard at the bottom, leveraged Photoshop graphic design, descriptive icons, Dark Cyan elements, and figures as a compelling vehicle to transmit his impact. Also, looking strategically, while John is tireless and accomplished, he’s humble. From an interviewing perspective, we wanted his resume to serve as a peacock, cheerleader, and high-impact presentation of his accomplishments. In other words, to sell him before he spoke with decisionmakers, which would allow him to operate from a place of humility during conversations. So, the resume’s language is fresh and evocative. The alliterative second line of his executive summary job speaks to his results and is an apt example: “Inc. 500/5000 enterprise ballast and bellwether who has impelled triple- and quadruple-digit leaps[.]” The second bullet beautifully dovetails on this alliteration, leading with: “architected and articulated.” We also embedded 5 testimonials to further strengthen his document, including reviews from a c-level executive, board member, and 3 top periodicals.
