Infrastructure matters…

Infrastructure matters

• The overall value of the pipeline is now £375 billion of investment

• Over £100 billion is investment in transport (road, rail, air)

• The largest investment in roads since the 1970s

• By 2020-21, the government will treble spending on strategic road enhancements from today’s levels and will invest over £28 billion in enhancements and maintenance of the road network.

Transport is exciting, challenging and growing

Highways Agency’s leadership role

We don’t get it right:• Recruiting same people

from same places• Status matters; old

working practices; steady pace of change

• Even our progressive working arrangements are… not very progressive

Highways Agency’s leadership role

Yet we achieve huge success from:• Innovation• Collaboration• Being responsive

Resolve to do just one thing that is really different…

Make a difference, share ideas, collaborate…

…we are all in the same transport team

Change the culture, structure, tools,…

…to make our world appeal to others

…to make our world appeal to all the people we already have
