The LaRue CountyHigh School HawksBoys Basketball teamconcluded the year withtheir annual awardsbanquet.

The Hawks finishedthe season with animpressive 23-8 record.They defeated Cavernaand Green County inthe 18th DistrictTournament to claimtheir fourth consecutivedistrict title.

The Hawks haveamassed a 36-4 recordagainst their districtopponents the past fiveyears.

The Hawks madetheir sixth consecutiveappearance to the 5thregion tournament.They defeated TaylorCo. 73-53 in the openinground and lost in over-time 74-80 to eventualchampion John Hardin.

“I am really proud ofhow much progress thisteam made over theyear,” said Head CoachPaul Childress. “Theplayers workedextremely hard in theoff season and during

the season as well. Thiswas a fun bunch tocoach.”

The banquet includeda meal in the LCHS cafeand awards ceremony inthe LCHS auditorium.Players were recognizedfor their accomplish-ments:

“The banquet is atime where these fineyoung men are honoredfor all the sweat, hardwork and time that theyput into a season,” saidChildress. “It was agreat year and I knowthat the parents, fansand supporters ofLaRue CountyBasketball reallyenjoyed watching thisteam play. They playedas a unit and competedevery game. I thoughtwe peaked at the end ofthe season and gaveourselves a great chancein the regional tourney.We were shooting theball well and everyoneknew their roles and

was giving us all theyhad. It was a great run.”

Ladies hope for success at Beach Bash

Three errors over the firsteight innings didn’t hurt but twoerrors in the top of the ninthdoomed the host Lady Hawksagainst the Lady Knights ofMarion County. LaRue fell 2-0 inthe April 3 game.

LaRue County wasted an 11-strikeout night by sophomoreBrigitte Skaggs, who allowed sixhits, two walks and hit one batterin 8 2/3 innings.

Sophomore Peyton Gardnerwent 2-for-4 while senior BrittanyEnlow, Brigitte Skaggs and juniorKayla Skaggs each had one hit.Sophomore Courtney Johnsonand eighth-grader MallorySkaggs both stole a base.

Florida Beach Bash

The 13th-ranked North LaurelLady Jaguars defeated LaRue’sLady Hawks 1-0 on Sunday dur-ing the opening day of the annualFlorida Beach Bash in FortWalton.

No. 6 Louisville Assumptionwas originally supposed to playLaRue County, but Assumptionplayed Saturday evening in theprestigious 50-team Bob JonesClassic in Huntsville, Ala., anddidn’t make it to the beach intime to play the Lady Hawks.

Brigitte Skaggs went 2-for-3with a double for LaRue County,while freshman Tristan Cruisesingled and stole a base. Fourplayers – Brittany Enlow, KaylaSkaggs, Gardner and eighth-grader Delany Eastridge – eachhad one hit.

LaRue County had seven hits

and walked once, but left 10 run-ners on base. The Lady Hawkshad the bases loaded with one outin the second and third innings.

The Lady Hawks have beenoutscored 36-2 over 27 inningsduring their five-game losingstreak.

“But we’re playing a lot betterthan we were, so I’m happy aboutthat,” said second-year LaRueCounty coach Aaron Howell.“We’re just not getting that keyhit when we need it. We’re goingto have to start manufacturingruns somehow.”

Kayla Skaggs struck out oneand walked one while scatteringsix hits – all singles. NorthLaurel (10-2) had scored at leastthree runs in each of its previous11 games.

The LaRue County Hawks rallied from a 3-1deficit to defeat Bardstown Bethlehem at homeApril 3.

The Eagles scored in the first inning afterJacob Browning singled, stole second andreached home on an error.

Hawk senior Kyle Sheeran tied the game inthe bottom of the first inning after hitting a sin-gle and advancing to third on senior JesseJohnson’s single.

The Eagles scored twice in the second inningand held the Hawks scoreless until the bottom ofthe sixth inning.

Stephen Carpenter singled and advanced tosecond on a shortstop error. He stole third andscored on a catcher’s error.

Sheeran walked and senior Kyle Meredithreached base on an error. Both runners advancedon the throw.

Johnson grounded out bringing in Sheeran.Meredith advanced to third.

Senior Slade Owens hit a sacrifice bunt bring-ing in Meredith – the game-winning run.
