Reminder - Revised Enrolment Policy
As some of you may be aware, the Department of Education has revised our Enrolment Policy. Information for Parents can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school/media/documents/changes-to-the-enrolment-policy-for-parents.pdf, but in essence schools will have an enrolment cap based on the number of permanent classrooms they have. We have nine permanent classrooms, so with ten classes we are deemed at capacity. All students currently enrolled, both in and out of area, will remain enrolled. Any out of area siblings who are on our list (prior to next term) for Kindergarten 2020 will also be enrolled. Unfortunately, any out of area families new to our school will not be able to enrol at this point unless they have exceptional circumstances. Next year all out of area enrolments, including siblings, will need to apply based on exceptional circumstances with the outcome determined by an enrolment panel. Whilst I believe sibling relationships form the basis of an exceptional circumstance this can not be guaranteed. Despite the revised policy it is important to enrol children when the time is best right for them and their level of maturity. Even though children turning 5 as late as July are able to start school this often is not best for them in the long run as they may not have a positive introduction to school life. All children must be enrolled by their sixth birthday.
Southern Stars Superstars!!
What an amazing show it was this year...I’m sure any of you who went to watch it would agree! I was fortunate enough to watch the Saturday matinee and then spend Saturday night at the park then backstage supervising our students along with Miss Middleton and Ms Wyman. Not only were all of our performers amazing on the dance floor but, given the cramped conditions, were beyond amazing backstage. Waiting can be hard when you’re that excited, however, they entertained themselves very well and didn’t let the excitement cloud their behaviour. Great job Figtree Heights! A very big thank you to both Mrs Modernel and Miss Middleton for their hours of planning, rehearsing and supervising to enable our students this exceptional opportunity...going well above their job description!
Tournament of the Minds
Another example of our staff going above and beyond to provide opportunities for our students is that of Ms Wyman who will be spending Father’s Day supporting our Tournament of the Minds participants as they take part in this challenge at the University of Wollongong on Sunday.
Good luck to our Tournament Team!

l Girls Touch Football
Good luck to the girls who are off on Thursday to play touch football against the Bulli PS team. Some of the girls have commented that Bulli are pretty tough competition… either way girls, enjoy the game, be proud and make time to smile and have a laugh! I bet they are thinking the same thing about our team!
School Photos
A printing error occurred in the original photo booklets sent home earlier this term so MSP have redone a new booklet for our students. These will be sent home today so keep an eye out for them in school bags.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Reminder - Bottle Tops for Hands
If you have plastic bottle tops at home can you please send them into the office. One of our grandparents is collecting these to send away to be recycled into prosthetic hands for children, so the more the better! If you would like to know more about this initiative you can Google bottle caps for prosthetic limbs.
Have a good day!
Rae Redfern Principal
If you did not manage to get the online book log completed in time please send in a paper book list so titles can be entered and then the logs validated. Don’t wait until the end of the week though, as it is a time consuming process and once time is up for validation we won’t be able to put any more completed entries in the system. With that in mind please have all lists returned to school by Wednesday morning at the latest. Thank you!
Super Star Students Congratulations to Nash Ferguson and Imogene Anderson who have qualified for the
South Coast Regional Athletics which will be held in Canberra on 13 September.

Good luck to you both
'Number Crunchers' is a competition that promotes
excellence in mathematics. It has 3 disciplines - orally
answering mathematical based questions using mental
strategies, reciting Pi to as many decimal points as you
can or completing a Rubik's Cube in the shortest time.
Annabel Wouters represented our school in the oral
section of the competition. As the oral questions
covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
fractions, decimals and time became increasingly
difficult, it was a nail-biting experience. Annabel made
it to the final round - a magnificent achievement!
Congratulations on this impressive result, Annabel.

Last week, 28 of our talented students performed 4 shows over 2 days at
‘Southern Stars The Arena Spectacular’. They have been working hard
over the past 5 weeks to learn 2 dances and 2 finales to perform along
side other students from the South Coast. Our students did an incredible
job and we are very proud of them.
