Thank You to Dan Hayes Dan Hayes has been employed by our parish for about 21 years as maintenance worker. Two months ago he formally retired but has remained with us part time while we sought a suitable replacement. Now that George Rivera has been hired to fill the position, Dan will soon begin a well-earned time of rest and relaxation. Dan Hayes used his gifts well on behalf of this parish. He is especially gifted in woodworking, building systems, machine diagnostic and repair and maintenance and was called upon to use these skills repeatedly in repairing and maintaining our 160 yr. old church buildings. We are indebted to him and will miss his friendliness and kindness including the many ways that he contributed to parish life.
Annual St. Ann Triduum Annual Triduum of celebrations for the feast of St. Ann will take place in Buffalo on July 24, 25 and 26 at St. Ann Church and Shine (651 Broadway and Emsile St.) in Buffalo. Outdoor Rosary and Prayer at St. Ann Church at 7 p.m. each evening, rain or shine.
Special Second Collection Today The second collection this Sunday is a traditional offering of the faithful called “Peter’s Pence.” It is an opportunity for Catholics to share a bit of what we have thus permitting the Holy Father to fund specific charitable needs in our name. Your donation today will help someone else in the Name of Christ.
Summer Social Next Weekend Following the 8am and 11 am masses this coming weekend, parishioners are welcome to enjoy breakfast treats with coffee, tea, cold drinks and a pastry along with fellow members of our faith family. The winter was long! Come; enjoy a short time with other parishioners!
“Summertime” “Summertime and the living is easy.” That’s what the favorite old song says. The living may be easy, but sometimes the giving is not. Summer collections often drop significantly in our parish because of vacation travel, sports schedules and other activities that cause parishioners to attend Mass in other parishes. If you would like to make your giving easy and consistent this summer, please consider our electronic giving option. Currently 17 parish families are using this simple and secure way to make and track their parish giving. If you would like to learn more about this easy, safe and secure way of giving, please contact Dan Hillman at the rectory office 366-1750; by email: finances@seasdunkirkny.org, or check out our website at https://seasdunkirkny.weshareonline.org
Journey into Love The Office of Family Life Ministries is looking for married couples to assist with the monthly diocesan marriage preparation program, Journey into Love. Married couples help by giving a 20 minute talk once or twice a year on essential topics and issues that engaged or newly marriage couples face. Married couples that support this ministry find it beneficial to their own marriage and their efforts contribute to the strengthening of family life as couples prepare for their marriage. If you are interested in finding out more about this very successful diocesan marriage program, please call the Family Life Office at 847-2210.
What is a Memorial Donation? Those who wish to remember a deceased friend or co-worker have two choices. They may request a mass card so that a Mass will be offered for the soul of the departed. Alternately, they might decide to make a donation to the parish as a memorial to that person. When we receive a request for a memorial, we publish the name of the deceased and the donor in the bulletin.
Help for Your Marriage Do You feel alone? Are you frustrated or angry with each other? Retrouvaille helps couples through difficult times. For more information, call 716-474-9371 or visit www.marriagesaved.comThe next Retrouvaille weekend is September 18 – 20.
DUNKIRK, NEW YORK JULY 18/19TH, 2015
World Meeting of Families The world’s largest Catholic gathering of families will be held in Philadephia from Sept. 22 -27. The event is held every 3 years and is sponsored by the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Family. The theme for this gathering is: “Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Aive. ” It is intended to emphasize the impact of love and life of families on our society. Families and individuals from the Diocese of Buffalo interested in attending this event are encouraged to contact St. Gemma’s Catholic Pilgrimages in Buffalo toll free at 855-710-7663. Pope Francis will attend the closing ceremonies.
Care for Creation The latest papal encyclical is entitled: Praise be to You My Lord: on Care for our Common Home. Our Holy Father begins, “St. Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life or a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us.” St. Francis was a mystic and a pilgrim who lived in simplicity and in wonderful harmony with God, with others, with nature and with himself. He shows us just how inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace. Action: Take time during this summer to enjoy nature and learn God’s creativity and love from this wondrous gift God has given us. To learn more go to www.fransiccanaction.org.
Observance of Surrender at Appomattox A Civil War Era Banquet will commemorate the formal ending of the Civil War at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia. The event will be held on August 2
nd, 2015 and
will be prepared by cooks from Most Precious Blood Church, 17 Prospect St. Angola. A variety of dishes will be served. The cost is $18.65 or, for reenactors in period dress, only $16.65. The price for children 10 and under is half price. Note the public is invited to displays depicting the life of Civil War Soldiers. This display will be presented by members of Reynolds’ Battery and will include a working Mobile Forge and a Civil war artillery piece. All proceeds will benefit Reynolds Battery.
Now and at the Hour of Our Death End-of-life decisions are among the most challenging we will ever face. Our Church offers comfort and practical guidance. Visit www.catholicendoflife.org to watch a video and read the New York State Bishops’ document for guidance concerning End-of-Life decisions. Learn why the Church favors palliative medicine and comfort care, and why the Church opposes physician –assisted suicide.
