What Does It Mean To Be A Child Of God? 1 John 3:1,2
The fact that God considers us his children is a miracle. Although God created us, like the prodigal son we often daily take our God-given life and use it for our own pleasure rather than to glorify him. By nature we don’t care about anyone else, we just care about our needs. God adopted us because of his love. It’s no wonder John exclaimed in our text, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1a) It cost him his Son. God hasn’t promised to give his children earthly riches. The truth is being a Christian often brings more suffering. Just think of how the world treated Jesus. For the most part people
laughed at his claims, mocked him, and eventually murdered him. If that’s the way Jesus was treated, we shouldn’t expect to be treated any better. What a wonderful day that will be when we get to see Jesus with our own eyes and see him as he really is, not as an artist would have us picture him. On Judgment Day we will be cleansed of all our sins and so instead of simply absorbing Jesus’ glory we will reflect it back like a polished mirror. We will be like Jesus!
Questions:
1. Why are we God’s children? 2. What did it cost God to buy us back? 3. When will we get to see Jesus face to face?

SEPTEMBER 2017 Financial Snapshot
As you can see, our general offerings are behind budget by $42,000 and behind 2016 by $11,000. How can you be
apart of growing the ministry at Zion?
Joe and Viya Stoltenow have been missionaries serving in Cambodia for the past three years working in and around Battambang city with poor and homeless children. This year they have opened a new program called Ray of Hope, where they will be working with street children and teaching them the love of Jesus.
In late 2016 Joe and Viya partnered with Global Lutheran Outreach, an independent Lutheran organization, incorporated in the state of Florida as a not-for-profit corporation. The purpose of Global Lutheran Outreach is to serve the worldwide Lutheran community by facilitating the sending of Lutherans as cross-cultural missionaries to establish and strengthen congregations and/or ministries around the world.
Together, with their partners at Global Lutheran Outreach, their goal is to introduce Jesus into the lives of the street children and show them that through His Word they are destined for so much more than a life of poverty. Our work here in Cambodia is truly a mission of Witness, Mercy and Life-together.

MARTIN LUTHER SCHOOL STAFF SPOTLIGHT. Pam was born and raised in rural Maddock, ND with three older brothers. Pam graduated with a B.S. degree from NDSU and furthered her education at U of Mary. She married Robert Nelson, and together they raised two daughters and currently have one grandchild.
Pam enjoys reading, walking and baking. She also enjoys working with young children, which is evident by how loved she is by her students. Lutheran Schools week is one of her favorite activities to do with her students. They especially enjoy the “Theme dress up days”.
The people Pam most admires are her parents. She contributes this to their faith, hard-working nature, humble attitude and ability to care for others.
Pam’s favorite Bible Verse comes from Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Ministry Focus...
Board of Stewardship
What is the board’s purpose?
To initiate programs for the development of good stewardship attitudes in the members of Zion in regard
to time, talents, and treasures;
To provide for training not specifically assigned to other Administrative Boards;
To provide for utilization of members of Zion for the work of Christ’s Kingdom;
To ensure the financial stability of Zion and its work through a developed program of dedicated,
proportionate, first fruits giving.
What are 5 top responsibilities of the board?
1. Study the Scriptural principles regarding the total stewardship calling of the Christian (as a member of his
family, as a neighbor and citizen, as a member of Zion) and share these insights with Zion members at
every available opportunity.
2. Encourage all members to use their talents in Christ’s work through a program which discovers and enlists
such talents. Maintain a list of volunteers to be distributed to various boards
3. Solicit budget needs from other boards and prepare a preliminary budget to be approve by the Voter’s
assembly.
4. Maintain, distribute, and recognize memorial donations.
5. Oversee Sunday offerings, counting and accounting. Analyze offerings to share with congregational
members.
Who currently serves on the board?
Melody Hintz-Rau, Mike Daffinrud, Renee Daffinrud,
Darin Anderson and Paula Peters
How could new board members be of value?
New board members would be able to provide a different
perspective to stimulate financial and volunteer giving.
