Principal’s report
Welcome back
Welcome back to our past students and families and a
big welcome to our new students and their families.
Once again we have a very busy term and year ahead
but one filled with lots of wonderful opportunities for
our students.
Kindergarten 2014
A very special welcome to our 29 new Kindergarten
children. They have settled in beautifully and have
been made very welcome by our other wonderful
students.
Welcome Kinders!
Our new Kinders settled straight into their learning!
2014 classes
My note last week detailed our 8 classes for this year.
We have several pockets of very large numbers in
particular grades necessitating the formation of
composite (multi-age) classes right throughout the
school. Our class formation is dependent on our
Kindergarten enrolments as this has a ripple effect
throughout the entire school.
Parent Information sessions
During Weeks 4 and 5 teachers will be holding
information sessions to provide parents with details on
classroom programs and procedures, as well as any
special events or excursions coming up during the
year. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s
teacher and to see how you can get involved in their
education. Notes will be sent home soon detailing
days/ times. Parent-Teacher interviews will be
conducted later in the term during Week 8.
New playground games
My thanks to our very generous P&C who have
enabled some fantastic new playground markings
under our COLA. The children have been having a
fabulous time playing chess, hopscotch, snakes and
ladders and handball in these newly painted areas.
Your move! Lots of strategy has been going on during
chess games
Daminica and Makeeta show some of our younger
students how to play ‘Snakes and Ladders.’

Swimming Carnival
Our annual school swimming carnival is being held
next Wednesday 12 February at the Junee Aquatic
Centre, Our carnival is for all children K-2. Permission
and information notes were sent home on Monday. A
reminder to all parents that this year all students will
travel to the pool from school by bus. Parents are
most welcome to join us at the pool.
School Captains
Welcome to our 2014 school captains – Captains:
Jamie Whiles & Taylah Hackett; Vice Captains: Jordan
Hawke & Kiara Longmore. Whilst these 4 were
announced at our 2013 Presentation night, they are
now able to officially wear their badges. I look forward
to working with this lovely group of leaders and I know
they will do a fantastic job.
Jordan, Kiara, Taylah & Jamie ready for a big year

Student Representative Council
Congratulations also to our newly elected Student
Representative Councillors (SRC). These students have
a busy year ahead. Not only will they be coming up
with suggestions for improving our school, but they
will soon be planning many fund-raising and other fun
student events which will occur throughout the year.
These students, along with our sports captains will
receive their badges at this Friday’s assembly:
K: Emily Edson, Taj Sheedy
K/1: Adam Parker, Jessica Eccleston

Uniforms
Thank you to all of our families who have ensured that
our students have returned to school this year in their
correct uniforms. A reminder that black shoes are to be
worn (except on sports days). Please ensure that your
child is wearing the correct footwear.
Merit & Behaviour Systems
Attached to today’s newsletter is a copy for parents of
our updated Merit & Behaviour systems. Last year we
introduced and trialed these two new systems, and
following some feedback from students, staff and
parents, some adjustments have been made. Our
school expectations centre around 3 key values:
Respectful, Responsible & Safe – leading to successful
learners. Parents will receive more information about
our system at upcoming Parent Information sessions in
Week 5.
Our new app
Recently I sent home information regarding a new
phone app we are trialling “Skoolbag.” At the moment
during this trial, it is only available on IPhone. However
I have received such positive feedback from parents
who have already accessed it, that we will be
purchasing the app. This will mean that (hopefully by
next week!) it will be available on all smartphones.
Cyber Safety
On Tuesday we were fortunate to have senior
Constable Gavin Coleman, Police liaison officer visit our
school. Constable Coleman talked with our senior
students about safe use of mobile devices and some of
the dangers they need to be aware of. Unfortunately
for teachers and parents, all too often our children
know more about using many technology platforms
and apps, but not of the consequences surrounding
their use. Hopefully this session provided some more
awareness for our students. I will continue to publish
more safety facts and tips surrounding this issue in
upcoming newsletters.

hours we need you!
