BEHIND THE

GENIUSTHE LIFE OFMOZART

MUSIC

"People are wrong who think my art comes easily to me. I

assure you, nobody has devoted so much time and

thought to composition as I."

January 27, 1756

Wolfang Amadeus

Mozart was born in

1756 in Salzburbgo

(Vienna).

Salzburg, Austria

His father, Leopold, was a very good musician and composer and worked for the ruler of Salzburg, the Archbishop.

His mother had seven children, but only two survived, Mozart and his sister Nannerl.

FATHER MOTHER

Sister,Nannerl

When his sister Nannerl was seven and Wolferl was three, Papa started teaching her to play the piano.

Started composing at the age of 5 and symphonies at 9.

He learned to play the piano and violin at an

early age.

He was too little to play the violin, (or so his dad thought) but they got him a little violin, just like Papa's, only smaller. One day, Papa came home with two friends. Wolfang came into the drawing room with his little violin and asked if he could play. His father refused, until a friend of his father’s said he could play with him. They all started playing, then everyone stopped and watched Mozart play the violin part all by himself – without any lessons!

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Young Mozart travelled throughout Europe

• Mozart and his family travelled to different countries; Munich, París, London, etc, and he gave a lot of concerts for some kings and emperors.

• When he was 17 years old he worked in the Salzburg’s court.

• Later he left his job and travelled with his mother to look for a new job.

At 6, he and his sister, performed series of concerts to Europe’s courts and major cities.

In Paris, the young Mozart published his first works, four sonatas for clavier with accompanying violin (1764).

In 1768, he composed his first opera, La Finta Semplice.

This first Italian trip culminated in a new opera, Mitridate, re di Ponto, composed for Milan.

Greatest success was Le Nozze di Figaro (The

Marriage of Figaro) (1786), composed for the Vienna

Opera.

In two further Italian journeys he wrote two more operas for Milan, Ascanio in Alba (1771) and Lucio Silla

(1772).

Mozart's career in Vienna began promisingly, and

he was soon commissioned to write The Abduction from the

Seraglio (1782).

For all his triumphs..

but he was unable

to find a permanent

Death of his mother

Spent last part

of his life in

poverty.

Po o rh e a l t h

December 5, 1791 Vienna, AustriaHis death gave rise to false rumors of poisoning, is thought to have resulted from rheumatic fever, a disease which he had suffered from repeatedly through his life.

Died at age 35.

After a cheap funeral at Saint

Stephen's Cathedral, he was buried in an unmarked grave at

the cemetery of Saint Marx, a

Viennese suburb.

Much has been made of this, but at that time such burial was legally required for all Viennese except

those of noble or aristocratic birth.

CONCERTO

When he was six, Mozart wrote a concerto, a difficult musical form even for an experienced grown- up to write!

They often played for important people who would pay them with gifts instead of money. Making enough money was always difficult for the Mozart family.
