In the same way, what value can Web 2.0 offer you and your organization?

Should we define it first? This is not easy since there is no governing authority who coined the term. As a result, there are numerous unofficial definitions.

I won’t try to define it. Instead, I’d like to summarize it.Web 2.0 marks a period in time that saw the transition from a static and plain model of building websites to something much more collaborative, social, and dynamic.

It’s just the how the web has evolved over the last decade. And it will continue to do so.

Those were nice examples, but my organization is nowhere near that.

That’s okay. Most websites aren’t either.

But there are still ways to take advantage.

Maybe I can illustrate with some examples from this conference.

You’ll probably collect a lot of these today

You’ll probably collect a lot of these today

But who likes managing business cards?

-Hard to remember who they are-End up in a pile-Writing notes on the back is no fun-All you really need is their email

Example #1

What if you used your smartphone instead?

Contact Management Apps:

-Instant transfer-No dealing with cards-Put a face to the name-Add notes-Get other networking info

or

There’s usually 10 minutes of Q&A at the end of presentations

On average, only 2 or 3 questions get asked, because the speaker-doesn‘t allow enough time-gives long-winded answers

Many attendees tune out during Q&A

Example #2

What if I used Twitter to take questions during the presentation?

-I can chose to answer or not-You can make statements as well-Your followers will see-I can reach you later on-You guys connect with each other

Example #3

Hopefully, somebody will ask me for a copy of this presentation

I didn’t want to print a copy for everyone because that’s a lot of paper, so I’d email it instead.

-The file is quite large-I might forget-I have no control over how you use it

What if I put it online and give you a link instead?

www.slideshare.com

-Save paper-Make it public for anyone-Post comments-View analytics-See my other presentations-Easily share with others
