"Enlightening The Unknown" Review (Milfits 'zine, issue#3)

Transcript of Insain

Disbanded French death metal band Insain have recently released their new and finalalbum Enlightening The Unknown under Kaotoxin Records. Produced at the mighty 16thCellar studio the EP is characterized by an unrelenting speed and ferocity. The bandoffers here a laserprecision performance that can be heard effortlessly pounding away atbreakneck speeds for most of the album. Each song seems to maintain a chaotic rushwithout necessarily falling into the trap of being overly repetitive or monotonous. Muchattentions are focused on the guitars, with plenty of variety to be found in the interplaybetween Schonbackler and Becuwe's guitarwork. Their guitar riffs are of high qualitylevel, and have been delivered with brutal and creative attitude. The drums also tie inperfectly with everything, deviating enough with a versatile yet brutal playing and blastbeats that don’t overshadow the guitars. The vocals are equally welldone; Louis Lafittealternates between low gutturals and high shrieks showing some kind of range andvariability. Overall, there are a few stale riffs here and there, but they are just minorimperfections in an album that is ultimately awesome.
