Presenting publicly is not always approving smiles and standing ovations. As speakers we do make ourselvesvulnerable.

Many of us have long stopped presenting just for thatone moment behind closed doors.

We and our presentations will sometimes be criticallyeyed and evaluated. Sometimes they will beapplauded and instantly acknowleded on Twitterwalls. And sometimes trashed by faceless trolls.

In the past last 5 years or so, we have beenexperiencing an never seen before drive to presentbetter.

Not least because social media puts more and impressive presentations into our awareness.

For example with formats such as TED and TEDxrespectively.

TED is the best known innovation conference in theworld and has become the epitome of greatpresenting of ideas worth spreading.

There might be even a „TEDfication“ within thebusiness world. Meaning that companies increasinglylearn from these fascinating talks while corporateaudiences consiously or unconciously measurebusiness presenters against this high benchmark.

So we have become more demanding as an audience. The awareness for presentations is growing.

NO. Please don‘t do that! Although openingpowerpoint and writing in directly is the usual thing todo. It is not always the most sensible.

Often, too little focus is being put on the message, thestructure and the content itself.

Instead there is a different way of seeingpresentations.

This holistic view is called presentorics – a mixture ofpresentation a rhetoric.

A presentation can be divided into 3 parts: content, slides and the speaker. To create a great presentation, these parts all have to be considered.

PowerPoint is only a tool for the speaker.

For a great presentation:

- Content need to be meaningful

- Slides need to be enriching

- Speakers need to present impressively.

This is the real recipe to get fit for stage.

Many presentations don‘t have a clear point. A message is lacking, the audience doesn‘t know whatthe presenter‘s objective is.

In addition – especially in sales contexts- speakersometimes forget communicating the audiencebenefit. At the end of the day, it‘s all about theaudience.

For the audience to follow the presentation, it needs a clear flow . This can only be achieved by goodconceptual groundwork and not a random assemblyof pre-existing slides.

Also, content might be to detailed, overstraining theaudience and resulting in too long a presentation.

The challenge lies in presenting complex aspects in a consise manner and in a in a short amount of time.
