DEFINITION

An apparent shift in frequency for a wave produced by a moving source.

  Christian Doppler 1842.

EQUATION

  vs = Velocity of the Source, vo = Velocity of the Observer, v = Velocity of sound or light in medium, f = Real frequency, f' = Apparent frequency.
