Connecting community resources with schools —to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life. We believe that every child needs and deserves the Five Basics:
1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
2. A safe place to learn and grow
3. A healthy start and healthy future
4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation
5. A chance to give back to peers and their community.
CIS school-based programs are designed to provide students with at least one of these REAL basics.

Congratulations! CIS shares in the excitement of our students. Many of our students are
experiencing remarkable success this year- including a decrease in absences, improving grades/behavior and obtaining Dickinson’s
highly regarded ‘RAM Award”.

CIS is looking for Volunteers:
YOU can make a difference!!
Yes, you have something valuable to contribute to a CIS student at John Dickinson
High School! Paying it forward only takes a little bit of your time, but yields long-
lasting and positive results. Some of our needs include:
Lunch Mentors- Eating lunch once a week with a student and sharing
positive thoughts and ideas can make a huge difference. Lunches are in 30
minutes in length. There are three lunch times to choose from.
First- 10:45-11:15; Freshman Lunch- 11:30-12:00; Third- 12:20-12:50.
Homework Helper- Many students just need some one-on-one attention to
get them to the next level. Students will benefit from your help by students
either completing homework and/or class assignments. You can work with
students individually or in small groups. Homework helpers are primarily
needed on B-Days after school from 2:30 to 4:15pm. Please contact me for
further details regarding our A, B scheduling.
Career Speakers- Come and share your professional and personal story of
becoming a successful business owner, computer specialist or scientist.
Often success seems like a distant dream instead of an attainable reality.
Sharing your journey helps put things into perspective for our students.
Please contact me to schedule a time to speak to our class.
