Together In Christ
Chris t Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church
Dear Friends of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ;
The past months have been rather unsettling for many. Will I catch the virus or not? How bad will it affect me
if I do? Will my work continue? Can I take care of my family? How much will we be changed? For those of
you who had family and friends in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul communities you were praying for safety and
God’s hand of peace to come over the cities.
When we are totally honest with ourselves we would agree that we do not like discord and we love it when
everything goes the way we want it to. Sadly that is not the case most days. In fact no where in all of God’s
Word does He promise that you will have an easy time in the life He has blessed you with.
What does He promise? “I will never leave you or forsake you.” “Lo. I am with you always to the close of the
age.” “I will be your God and you will be my people.” Without a doubt, we have a God who says I care about
you and will not let you out of my hand. How safe that should make us feel as we take on each day that comes
before us.
Over all there are many people who seek for and need a place of safety. That was especially true for us when
we were children, but you know what; it is just as important to us today as we have grown to adulthood. Some-
one I know very well once shared a simple story from their childhood that speaks to this truth.
It had been a hot summer day in July. In the evening, the sky became very dark as storm clouds rolled in. The
stagnant, humid air was replaced by powerful, gusty winds. The weather moved in while this little boy was rid-
ing in the car with his father, out in the farmland west of town where the storm was brewing . The weather be-
came more and more violent. The scene was dramatic, but father and son made it back home without harm, just
as the storm rolled in full force.
It was now late in the evening. Although it was completely dark outside, flashes of lightning—all too close—lit
up the sky. And not only the sky but also the entire neighborhood or so it seemed. The lightning was accompa-
nied, of course, by very loud cracks of thunder that seemed to shake the house.
Amid the continuing excitement, it was nevertheless bedtime. As the father put the little boy to bed, he opened
the window just a bit so that the cooler air could flow through the warm house. That made the sound of the
thunder even louder. And the little boy could hear the rain pelting down outside. Despite all the terror outside
the boy immediately fell asleep, safe in the knowledge that he was in his father’s house.
So it is for us as Christians, who know that our God is the First and the Last. “Fear not, nor be afraid,” God
says to us through the prophet Isaiah (Is. 44:8) Nothing can touch us apart from Him! He is always with us!
Be Blessed, Pastor Aufdenkamp

The power of prayer is the belief that God works for us, never against us. As a body of believers let us pray for one another. Specifi-cally as we are aware of needs and corpo-rately for the sake of our brothers and sisters. For our community, for our nation, and for our world. May God bring His Peace that passes understanding!
