BETH MOORE EVENT-SEPT. 17, 2016

Prayer Gathering this Thursday in

the Mosaic room at 7 pm

How lovely is Your dwelling place

O Lord almighty

For my soul longs and even faints

for You

For here my heart is satisfied

Within Your presence

I sing beneath the shadow of

Your wings

Better is one day in Your

courts

Better is one day in Your

house

Better is one day in Your

courts

Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would

seek

To see Your beauty

To find You in the place

Your glory dwells

One thing I ask and I would

seek

To see Your beauty

To find You in the place

Your glory dwells

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

My heart and flesh cry out

For You the living God

Your Spirit's water to my soul

I've tasted and I've seen

Come once again to me

I will draw near to You

I will draw near to You to You

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

Better is one day in Your courts

Your love is devoted like a ring of

solid gold

Like a vow that is tested like a

covenant of old

Your love is enduring through the

winter rain

And beyond the horizon with

mercy for today

Faithful You have been and

faithful You will be

You pledge Yourself to me and it’s

why I sing

Your praise will ever be on my

lips

Ever be on my lips

Your praise will ever be on my

lips

Ever be on my lips

Your praise will ever be on my

lips

Ever be on my lips

Your praise will ever be on my

lips

Ever be on my lips

You Father the orphan

Your kindness makes us whole

You shoulder our weakness

And Your strength becomes our

own

You’re making me like You

Clothing me in white

Bringing beauty from ashes

For You will have Your bride

Free of all her guilt and rid of all her

shame

And known by her true name and

it’s why I sing

And it's why I sing

Your praise will ever be on my

lips

Ever be on my lips

Your praise will ever be on my

THE LETTERS OF

JOHNThe Well, Winter/Spring 2016

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that

we should be called children of God! And that is what we

are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did

not know him.”

(1 John 3:1)

Greek Word, “potapen” which literally means “of what

country” and thus implies that God’s love is so unusual, so

unearthly, so unique to our experience. – Gary M. Burge

“2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we

will be has not yet been made known. But we know that

when Christ appears,[a] we shall be like him, for we shall

see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify

themselves, just as he is pure.”

(1 John 3:2-3)

RESURRECTION LIFE BEGINS

NOW:

• Romans 8:17-18

• Philippians 3:21

• 2 Corinthians 3:18

“ Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not lovetheir brother and sister.” v. 4-10

WHAT IS SIN?

• An immoral action

• Breaking God’s law

• A live opposed to God

CHILDREN OF GOD

• Chose a life away from

sin

• Lives the GREATEST

command: Love God,

Love people

“11 For this is the message you heard from the

beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like

Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his

brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own

actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do

not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,[b] if the world

hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to

life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not

love remains in death.15 Anyone who hates a brother or

sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has

eternal life residing in him.” V. 11-15

CHILDREN OF GOD

• Chose a life away from

sin

• Lives the GREATEST

command: Love God,

Love people

CHILDREN OF GOD

• Chose a life away from

sin

• Lives the GREATEST

command: Love God,

GENESIS 4:1-16

IS THEIR STORY OUR

STORY?

RELATIONAL BREAKS

HAPPEN WHEN:

• God is removed from the

center.

• “Sin is creeping at the

door”…and we let it in.

• We focus on MY needs

above all else.

“16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid

down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for

our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material

possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has

no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that

person?18 Dear children, let us not love with words or

speech but with actions and in truth.” v. 16-18

Laying down ones life is a posture of

readiness to do anything for our brothers

and sisters in Christ.

“19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and

how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our

hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our

hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our

hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before

God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we

keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this

is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus

Christ, and to love one another as he commanded

us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in

him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives

in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” (v. 19-24)

WHEN WE FEEL

INSECURE:• Know that our assurance

is anchored in God and

God alone.

• God has the final say in

who we are (we are His

children!).

• God is mightier than our

hearts, and knows more

about us than we can

imagine.

WHEN WE PRAY:• Pray with confidence.

• Pray according to God’s

will

• Prayer is abiding.

• “It’s the type of prayer that

springs from a fruitful and

intimate relationship with

God that has already

matured.” Gary M. Burge

(165)

John’s description of a Christian life is not

some moral upright life disconnected from

God (a list of do’s and don’ts); rather, it is

a live in sync with and intimately instep

with God. It cannot be lived apart from a

relationship with God.
