A NOTE FROM THE CHAIRAstheChairpersonofShowMeTheWay,IwouldpersonallyliketocongratulatetheCEOforhisdedicationandpassiontobetterthelivesofpeoplefromdiversebackgrounds.AsaboardwestandunitedtocommittoourcorepurposeofsupportingIndigenousyouthandyouthfromrefugeebackgrounds.Ourvaluesareshapedaroundnotonlyempoweringtheindividualbuttheirfamiliesandalsointotheirbroadercommunities.Lastly,wehavemadeapresence on a national scale, I forecast this trend to continue from our present and into our future business endeavours, I remain positive in the position of Chairperson, alongside the CEOandboardmembersaswecontinuetoharnessourenergiestowardsanexcitingfuture.

A NOTE FROM THE CEOThisfinancialyearhasseenShowMeTheWayfocusonbuildingstrategicpartnershipswithcomplimentingorganisationsinthenotforprofitsector.WehavealsocontinuedtostrengthenourreachwiththedevelopmentofprogramsacrossruralNSWandWesternAustralia.MindfulofcurrenteconomicpressuresShowMeTheWayisalsoaligningwithpartnerswhocanprovideprobonosupportforourcorebusinessoffilmworkshops.ShowMeTheWaycrosscurriculumteachingandlearningresourcesarenowbeingdevelopedandtrialedinourschools.TheseresourcesalignwiththeNationalCurriculumandStatebenchmarks.ShowMeTheWaycontinuestocreatesignificantopportunitiesthatimproveeducationaloutcomesforstudentsaswellasconnectingtheschoolcommunitywiththebroadercommunities.

I. PROGRAMS

After the highly successful outcomes of the 2017-18program,theShowMethe Way-Walgettprogramcontinuestogrow andsupportthelocalcommunity.At Walgett Community College High School on December5,2018,ShowMeTheWay attendedaspecialpreviewscreeningof lastyear’sfilms.Studentparticipants,intervieweesandtheDirectorofEducation, ChrisShawattended.Hewasveryimpressedwiththestudentoutcomesandthequality ofthefinishedfilms.Hecontinueshis financialcommitmentwithhalffundingtotheprogramforthreeyears.Theprogramis partoftheschool’sstrategicplanforthe nextthreeyears.

A special Show Me The Way Day celebrated students’achievementswithascreeningoffilmsandincludedawardsofDVDstoall

participants.Thiseventincludedwholeofschoolandmanycommunitystakeholders from Aboriginal organisations including the WalgettAboriginalMedicalService.Thisevent isplannedtocontinueeveryyear.Thefirst ShowMeTheWayDaywasFriday10May2019.ShowMeTheWay’sChairWayneMcEwenandCEOChrisMaguireattendedtheevent.

AttheShowMeTheWayDay,theDVDMyCountryYourCountry-theWalgettStorieswaslaunched.ThesearethedocumentarystoriesoflocalheroesfilmedinWalgettinOctober/November2018.

WiththeassistanceofJoFlick,AboriginalEducationOfficerandPresidentoftheParentsandCitizensAssociationweareplanningfor thenextroundofworkshopsscheduledfor laterin2019.

AftermeetingswithMenindeeCentralSchool,fundswereallocatedfora2019SMTWprogram.Afacetofacecommunityconsultationtookplaceon25Marchandfilmworkshops ran13-18May.

Thefinishedfilmswerescreenedon4July asawholeofschooleventattheschool.It wasannouncedthattheprogramwillnowcontinueforthreeyearsaspartoftheschool’sstrategicplan.

Western Sydney University graphic design students collaborated on the cover designs ofournewDVDs,MyStoryMatters3andMyCountryYourCountry-theWalgettStories. ThisdesignworkformspartoftheWesternSydneyUniversitystudents’courseworkandgivesthestudentsanopportunitytoworkwithrealworldclients.Thefinishedartwork included DVD covers, promotional posters andlaunchinvitations.

RecentlyShowMeTheWaymetwiththeAustralian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation anditwasdecidedtogetherwescopeapilotprogramwithShowMeTheWayfilm workshopsforstudentsinWesternSydney. Thestudentswouldinterviewlocalsabout theimportanceofliteracy.

libraries across Australia including the National
