As we approach the end of Semester 1 of the school year, it is important that we pause and reflect upon
the efforts and achievements of our students. Through compiling a report for your child, teachers can give
valuable feedback to both the student and parents.
BTS reports will all be issued by the end of this week. I trust that you will take the time to discuss your
child’s performance and reflect on the year so far. Many report comments will contain suggestions on how
your child can gain further success in the following semester. If you require additional information, then
please do not hesitate in arranging an interview with your child’s teacher. This can be done through the
front office.
The College Model Review- In order to continue to improve the educational delivery within BTS, I have
requested a review of the College Model which although is predominantly for senior students, does have
an impact throughout the entire K-12 school. This week every family will receive a survey to provide all
members of the BTS community to have an input. Senior students will have the opportunity to individually
respond. These are required back to the front office by Friday 5 June 2015.
I am pleased that we have had a significant improvement in school uniform. I do seek parental support in guiding female students in wearing ‘modest’ clothing whilst in a school environment. At no point is close skin-tight pants/tracksuits acceptable as part of the uniform. If students wish to wear extra layers under their uniform for warmth, then they are certainly encouraged. The school is able to assist families that require financial assistance in order to receive selected items of school uniform. Below is a community announcement that will be of benefit to community members.

Emma Kynaston, Dakota Armitstead-Hansen,
Kate Kynaston,
Please don’t make me go to school She lay awake in her bed listening for the call She dare not tell her mother why she couldn’t go to school. The taunting and the whispers were getting hard to bear, She tried to laugh, tried to grin, tried hard not to care. Daughter, you’ll be late for school. Oh dear why do you cry? The girls at school they tease me, I feel I want to hide. They treat me very badly and call me ugly names, They whisper to each other and ban me from their games. So please don’t make me go to school, please let me stay right here Tomorrow I’ll be strong enough to pretend I just don’t care. P.J.Hewes
A poem about bullies Bullies aren’t very good, they spoil all the fun Bullies are bad for each and every one They pick on people smaller than them and make them very sad Yes bullies aren’t very good. They’re truly very bad If you are getting bullied I’ll tell you what to do Just tell a parent or a teacher, they’ll sort it out for you If you remember what I’ve told you and don’t let it slip your mind If you start getting bullied Everything will turn out fine. anon From A small school child, Omskirk, KidPub, Lancashire, UK 1995.
At the end of the lesson, students were given a piece of paper. Students were told to crumple it up,
stamp on it and really mess it up but do not rip it. Students were then asked to unfold the paper,
smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it is. They were asked to yell at their piece of paper
and say they are sorry. Students were told that even though they said they were sorry and tried to
fix the paper, and look at the scars they left behind. Those scars will never go away no matter how
hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're
sorry but the scars are there forever.
Students discussed and reflected on this task throughout the day.
Wellbeing Values/How2Learn Report This week students learnt to use poetry to explore the
experience of bullying from the victim’s perspective.
Using reciprocal skills – collaboration, empathy and
listening students worked together to un-jumble the
bully poems below:

9/10 DEBATING
On Friday, the 9/10 Debating team had their second round of the
Premiers Debating Challenge against Albury High School. The students
utilised the VC room (video conference) for this debate. They were
extremely professional, calm and presented strong arguments.
Unfortunately, they lost their debate however represented our school
with pride.
COLLEGE HOSPITALITY
Students have been concentrating on how to make savoury and sweet
soufflés. We made a savoury Cheese soufflé the first lesson and the
second lesson we made chocolate souffle with Berry Coulis and Ice-cream.
All students did extremely well and all soufflés rose to a restaurant service
height and the students were surprised at how easy they were to make
and especially nice to eat. Well done everyone.
