Valley Art is continuing with its gallery lighting upgrade. Gallery visitors have commented on the remarkable improvement the new lighting makes.

Our adopt-a-bulb campaign continues to speed the progress of this project and each bulb sponsorship is a vote of encouragement to all of us who are so excited about such a beautiful, energy-smart upgrade.

Between now and year’s end, we hope you will

contribute $20 to adopt a bulb. You will be honored with a thank-you in the gallery front window and in the January newsletter. Your contributions are tax-deductible and everyone will know that you really light up a room!

Please consider joining this effort and to those of you who already have, THANK YOU!

Rain-Rain-Go-Away…That was the chant on Saturday afternoon, September 21, during the 23rd Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival. The day started out great with mild temperatures and low cloud cover. Many people came out and created their colorful drawings before the rain made its appearance around 2:30 that afternoon. Over 340 squares were reserved; however, gloomy weather predictions during the week kept some folks from participating. All in all, the

event was a success and many wonderful photos were taken of the great art before it was washed away. Lively music was provided by Kirk Larson, Una Voz Mariachi Band and Boka Marimba. Featured artists this year were Tess O’Day (poster creator), Kat Moss, Anthony Perez, Amber Buhler and Alexis Bell. Visit the Valley Art website (www.valleyart.org) to see more photos of this amazing day.

For Members Night, all members planning to enjoy the party are asked to bring an appetizer or bottle of wine. I know a bottle of nice wine is easier, but last year a little more food would have been great. We always ask for finger food, as we don’t have the facility for more involved dishes. We have been including easy recipes in the last several newsletters and all cookbooks have a chapter on them. If you find

something that sounds good try it, first tries are usually very successful.

Many thanks to those of you who regularly contribute food to First Wednesdays and to Artist Receptions (the next one is in January.)

Our thanks go to the June 25 mailing party who help in getting this newsletter from our gallery into your hands. Linda Wilke, Jeannette and David Saucy, John and Mary Welch, Carol Dean, Jack and Pat Howard and Mary Ann Mellbye—we couldn’t do it without you!

Would you like to join the mailing party? Either call Caroline our volunteer coordinator, at 503-747-7321 and say, “I want to pitch in at the mailing parties!” Or, drop your name and phone number by the front desk at Valley Art with the same message. We’d love to have you join us!

2013 Chalk Art Festival

I thought for this first note from the president of the board I would introduce myself. My name is Lynne Magner and I have been on the board for the past four years and have been on the marketing committee most of that time. My husband Andy

and I started Miracle Sign Co. shortly after moving to Forest Grove in 1977 and that still consumes most of our time since we now have a shop in Beaverton run

by our son. My hobbies include golf, sewing, quilting and

knitting—and now with four grandkids, I am madly sewing Halloween costumes. Fun!

Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any concerns, ideas or questions about Valley Art. And next issue, I will see what “Catches my eye” in the Gallery.
