WHS Staff Visit the Sikh Temples
'A place of excellence':
Sikh Heritage Museum of Australia
“Preserving the history of a community is vital for the
upkeep of their culture, religion, social and economic
life. It defines the identity, values, beliefs as well as the
trials and triumphs of a people and serves as a rich
lesson for their future generations. The Sikh Heritage
Museum of Australia covers it all.”

As part of our staff development day on Mon-
day 22 July, the entire school staff visited
both Sikh temples and the new Sikh
museum in Woolgoolga.
On behalf of the school staff I would like to
publically thank the local Sikh community for
their hospitality, education and for building
such positive relationships with the school. All
staff were extremely impressed with both
temples and the museum will become a
regular part of our curriculum with student
excursions.
Of particular note was the musical perfor-
mances of Gurpreet Kaur and Gurpartap
Singh. They were outstanding playing the
traditional Indian musical instruments.
Our staff learned so much about the Sikh
religion and way of life. Thank You! To
parents, I urge you to visit the museum; it
was excellent! Thank you to Satpal Singh and
Dr Amarjit Singh More for organising this visit.

To all Year 12 parents and caregivers, the
lead up to the HSC is an important time for
students, your support and encouragement
is very important.
Congratulations to all of this fortnight’s sport-
ing successes that are highlighted in this

Studying composing with the best
Paul Stanhope and Ella Macens are internationally recognised composers from Sydney. On
Wednesday 24 July, our students participated in a one day composition workshop with these two
excellent musicians and a live string quartet at Carinya Christian School in Tamworth. The quartet
played music by the composers and then the composer stepped the students through how the
music was written and taught them a myriad of compositional techniques. Students both enjoyed
and learned a great deal from this enormously valuable experience.

The 15’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams travelled to Grafton on Tuesday 30 July for the knockout
competition. The players looked awesome in the new uniforms! Thank you to Mr Wright for the
purchase of the uniforms. All competitors played with enthusiasm, spirit and sportsmanship. It was
encouraging to see such a polite, sensible and co-operative group of students working well as a
team.
The boys’ team consisted of all top age players. This made a big difference to the games and
results. Our boys had an easy win over Bellingen by 40 points in the first round. The second round
was against Coffs Harbour High School and was a much closer game but we came out victorious
by one point! The next game was against Orara High School in the final but the team unfortunately
ended up 10 points short at the end of the match. A great effort to bring the score back from 20
points down at three quarter time. The players can be proud of their effort and congratulated for
being runners-up in the zone final.
Boys and Girls 15’s Basketball
The girls’ team consisted of mostly Year 7
players, which made them a couple of years
younger than the majority of their competition.
It was a quick and steep learning curve. They
played exceptionally well and enjoyed their
games.
It was great to meet parents and relatives who
travelled to the games to provide transport
and support. Thank you to everyone involved
in making this day a success.

We welcome information from parents about your child’s health, even if you are not requesting
specific support from our school. Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your
child. It is also important that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new
health condition develops.
Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes, and other health
care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months)
should be provided to the school by parents. Please provide this information in writing to the
principal. This will greatly assist our school in planning to support your child’s health and
wellbeing.
Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or
to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.
We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the
school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or
daughter’s health needs or as otherwise required by law.
