Truman doctrine

Definition : was an international

relations policy set forth by the U.S.

President Harry Truman in a speech[1] on

March 12, 1947, which stated that the

U.S. would support Greece and Turkey

with economic and military aid to prevent

them from falling into the Soviet sphere.[2]

Definition: also called the (North) Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party

POLICY OF DÉTENTE

Definition : The term is often used in reference to the general easing of the geo-political tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States which began in 1969, as a foreign policy of U.S. presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford called détente; a 'thawing out' or 'un-freezing' at a period roughly in the middle of the Cold War.
