COME LET US WORSHIP
A warm welcome to each of you as we gather for worship today and a
special welcome to our guests. As we offer God our praise, may you be richly blessed
by God’s gracious Word, Meal and community.
UPDATED Special Worship Notes and Precautions.
We hope we are nearing the end of the more restrictive recommendations for those who
have received the COVID-19 vaccination. Responding to the last published CDC
guidelines, our Re-Opening Team and Council laid out a plan for a gradual loosening
of the guidelines at Haven. In June we discontinued required social distancing. Starting
July 1st, those who are vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks We will
continue to keep chairs that allow for social distancing in the narthex (lobby) for any
vaccinated or unvaccinated persons who wish to continue to practice social distancing.
At this time, as we continue to be mindful and caring for one another, please:
• use provided hand sanitizer as much as possible (as you enter & leave the
building & in the pews);
• pass the peace from your seat for now. (A wave, bow or fist bump are the safest.
Include a wave to those participating at home.)
• As you come forward for communion, please leave some space between yourself
and any persons in front of you who are from another household.
• Like Jesus, we strive to invite, welcome and include everyone. Thus, practicing
good hospitality, PLEASE do not ask or quiz persons about their mask choice
OR their vaccination status. Wearing a mask or not, we worship our Lord
together with gratitude and joy.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation, your presence and your prayers as
we worship in God’s presence as God’s beloved children.
GOD IS WITH US. Thanks be to God.

SERVICE OF HOLY BAPTISM
Candidate: Georgia Jeanette Kline
Sponsors: Ashley Jo Mackin & Benjamin Stapleton Mackin
Parents: Kathleen Therese Mackin & Christian Michael Kline ELW p. 227-231
Candidate for baptism, sponsors, and parents gather with the minister at the font.
NOTE: Non-flash photography while seated in a pew is permitted. Families of Georgia may
return to the church after worship to take as many pictures as they would like.
PRESENTATION
In baptism our gracious heavenly Father frees us from sin and death by joining us to the
death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen
humanity; by water and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God and made
members of the church, the body of Christ. Living with Christ and in the communion of
saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God.
8
Benjamin and Ashley, do you present Georgia Kline for Holy Baptism? If so, answer, “I
do”.
Sponsors: I do.
Chris and Kathleen, called by the Holy Spirit, trusting in the grace and love of God, do
you desire to have your child, Georgia Kline baptized into Christ? If so, answer, “We
do”.
Parents: We do.
As you bring Georgia to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with
responsibilities:
to live with her among God's faithful people,
bring her to the word of God and the holy supper,
teach her the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments,
place in her hands the holy scriptures,
and nurture her in faith and prayer,
so that your child may learn to trust God,
proclaim Christ through word and deed,
care for others and the world God made,
and work for justice and peace.
Do you promise to help Georgia grow in the Christian faith and life?
If so, answer “I do”.
Parents: “I do”.
Sponsor, do you promise to nurture Georgia in the Christian faith as you are empowered
by God's Spirit, and to help her live in the covenant of baptism and in communion with
the church? If so, answer “I do.”
Sponsor: “I do”.
People of God, do you promise to support Georgia and pray for her in her new life in
Christ? If so, answer “We do”.
C: We do.
PROFESSION OF FAITH
I ask you and all who are gathered here to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin,
and confess the faith of the church.
Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God?
C: I renounce them.
Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God?
C: I renounce them.
9
Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God?
C: I renounce them.
Do you believe in God the Father?
C: We are not alone; we live in God’s world.
I believe in God above us,
maker and sustainer of all life,
of sun and moon,
of water and earth,
of male and female.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
C: I believe in God beside us,
Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, our Lord,
born of a woman’s womb,
servant of the poor.
He was tortured and nailed to a tree.
A man of sorrow, he died forsaken.
He descended into the earth to the
place of death.
On the third day he rose from the tomb.
He ascended into heaven
to be everywhere present,
and his kingdom will come on earth.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
C: I believe in God within and among us,
the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire,
life-giving breath of the Church,
spirit of healing and forgiveness,
source of resurrection and of life everlasting.
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence;
to love and serve others;
to seek justice and resist evil;
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.
10
THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. (as water is poured into the baptismal font)
We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and
by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight.
Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family and through the sea
you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was
baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus' death and
resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in
you.
Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that those who are washed in
the waters of baptism may be given new life. To you be given honor and praise through
Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.
C: Amen.
BAPTISM
Georgia, I baptize you in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
C: You belong to Christ,
in whom you have been baptized. Alleluia.
Laying both hands on the head of the newly baptized, the minister prays:
Let us pray. We give thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give
your sons and daughters, new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to eternal life.
Sustain Georgia with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of
the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever.
C: Amen.
The presiding minister marks the sign of the cross on the forehead of the baptized, saying:
Georgia, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the
cross of Christ forever.
C: Amen.
11
WELCOME A lighted candle is given to the newly baptized (to the sponsor or parent of a young child) as a
representative of the congregation says:
A: Let your light so shine before others
that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.
As the minister presents the newly baptized to the assembly,
a representative of the congregation leads the assembly in the welcome.
A: Let us welcome the newly baptized.
C: We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share:
join us in giving thanks and praise to God
and bearing God's creative and redeeming word to all the world.
(“Jesus Loves Me” vs. 1 & refrain is sung as Pastor brings Georgia among the congregation.)
Verse 1
Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so;
little ones to him belong, they are weak, but he is strong.
Refrain
Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me,
yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.
THE PRAYERS Each prayer ends: “Lord, in your mercy,” C: “hear our prayer” When the petition is read that includes those listed in our prayer list, the congregation is invited to
join in that prayer by reading aloud the names below. Read only the bold portion of the names, going

THE PEACE
P: The peace of Christ be with you always.
C: And also with you.
P: We offer one another a sign God’s peace.
(Pass the peace from your seat for now. A wave, bow or fist bump is the safest.
Include a wave to those participating at home. There is hand sanitizer in the pews.)
THE MEAL
THE OFFERING
P: It’s Offering time! C: Praise God! (May God bless what we give and use it to bring wholeness, healing and hope to God's world. Amen.
Thank you for your faithful generosity.)
THE OFFERING PRAYER
A: Jesus, Bread of life, you have set this table with your very self,
and called us to the feast of plenty.
C: Gather what has been sown among us,
and strengthen us in this meal.
Make us to be what we receive here,
13
your body for the life of the world. Amen.
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
P: You are indeed holy, gracious and merciful God;
everything is filled with your glory.
We give you thanks for your promise and presence
which have sustained the faithful in this and every generation.
Above all, we give you thanks for Jesus, born of Mary,
who in word and deed announced your gentle rule of justice, reconciliation and
peace.
On the night he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for
you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave if or all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people
for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering his command to love one another, his life and death,
his resurrection and his ascension, we pray for his coming again even as we cry:
14
C: (Repeat after the presider sings it first)
P: Send now, we pray, your Holy Spirit,
that all of your promises may come to us and your whole creation.
Empower us by that same Spirit, to love and forgive
that our lives may anticipate that day when you will make all things new:
C: (Repeat after the presider sings it first)
P: Gather our prayers with those of the apostles, prophets, martyrs,
and all the faithful who have gone before us,
and unite them with the unceasing prayer
of the One who lives in us and in whom we live, Jesus Christ.
C: Amen!
15
THE LORD’S PRAYER
P: Lord remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION

THE NEW STEEPLE WAS JUST
FOUR INCHES SHY OF INSTALLATION
A fair number of folks gathered on Wednesday morning
awaiting the installation of the new steeple. It was great to
see Mr. Jack Dickinson who had overseen the original
construction of the church and placement of the steeple. We
watched as the steeple was reassembled and then lifted to the new roof. BUT then….. It
was discovered that the central shaft was about four inches too long, preventing the four
“legs” from sitting on the roof where they needed to be attached. After conversations with
the Campellsville Steeple company, the steeple needed to go back to Kentucky for the
necessary adjustments. You could probably hear our communal sigh throughout
Hagerstown. But let’s get it right!
Right now, the Campbellsville Company estimates the steeple’s return and installation the
week of July 18th. We will keep you updated and extend an invitation to a “Steeple Place
Party II.”
