COME LET US WORSHIP

A warm welcome to each of you as we gather for worship today and a

special welcome to our guests. As we offer God our praise, may you be richly blessed

by God’s gracious Word, Meal and community.

UPDATED Special Worship Notes and Precautions.

We hope we are nearing the end of the more restrictive recommendations for those who

have received the COVID-19 vaccination. Responding to the last published CDC

guidelines, our Re-Opening Team and Council laid out a plan for a gradual loosening

of the guidelines at Haven. In June we discontinued required social distancing. Starting

July 1st, those who are vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks We will

continue to keep chairs that allow for social distancing in the narthex (lobby) for any

vaccinated or unvaccinated persons who wish to continue to practice social distancing.

At this time, as we continue to be mindful and caring for one another, please:

• use provided hand sanitizer as much as possible (as you enter & leave the

building & in the pews);

• pass the peace from your seat for now. (A wave, bow or fist bump are the safest.

Include a wave to those participating at home.)

• As you come forward for communion, please leave some space between yourself

and any persons in front of you who are from another household.

• Like Jesus, we strive to invite, welcome and include everyone. Thus, practicing

good hospitality, PLEASE do not ask or quiz persons about their mask choice

OR their vaccination status. Wearing a mask or not, we worship our Lord

together with gratitude and joy.

we worship in God’s presence as God’s beloved children.

PRESENTATION

In baptism our gracious heavenly Father frees us from sin and death by joining us to the

death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen

humanity; by water and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God and made

members of the church, the body of Christ. Living with Christ and in the communion of

saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God.

THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT

We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and

by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight.

Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family and through the sea

you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was

baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus' death and

resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in

you.

Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that those who are washed in

the waters of baptism may be given new life. To you be given honor and praise through

Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

BAPTISM

Georgia, I baptize you in the name of the Father,

Laying both hands on the head of the newly baptized, the minister prays:

Sustain Georgia with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and

understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of

the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever.

The presiding minister marks the sign of the cross on the forehead of the baptized, saying:

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

P: You are indeed holy, gracious and merciful God;

everything is filled with your glory.

We give you thanks for your promise and presence

which have sustained the faithful in this and every generation.

Above all, we give you thanks for Jesus, born of Mary,

who in word and deed announced your gentle rule of justice, reconciliation and

peace.

On the night he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;

broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for

you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave if or all to drink, saying:

This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people

for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Remembering his command to love one another, his life and death,

INVITATION TO COMMUNION

COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION For those communing in their homes: Please have your communion set(s) ready, removing

the protective film on the host and grape juice. Pastor will then say, “Body of Christ, given

for you.” Please consume the host. Pastor will say, “Blood of Christ, shed for you.” Please

drink the grape juice. As your brothers and sisters in Christ in the church receive

communion, please pray for them and/or sing the communion songs on their behalf.

For those communing in the church: Holy Communion will be offered in bread (wafer or

“host”) and wine. Grape juice is also available. As your section of the church is invited

forward, please leave room between yourself and the person in front of you from another

household.

First come to the pastor to receive the bread dropped into your hand. Step to the side and

consume the host. Second, go to the assisting minister to take a cup of wine or grape juice.

a basket where you can dispose of your empty cup.

THE NEW STEEPLE WAS JUST

FOUR INCHES SHY OF INSTALLATION

A fair number of folks gathered on Wednesday morning

awaiting the installation of the new steeple. It was great to

see Mr. Jack Dickinson who had overseen the original

construction of the church and placement of the steeple. We

watched as the steeple was reassembled and then lifted to the new roof. BUT then….. It

was discovered that the central shaft was about four inches too long, preventing the four

“legs” from sitting on the roof where they needed to be attached. After conversations with

the Campellsville Steeple company, the steeple needed to go back to Kentucky for the

necessary adjustments. You could probably hear our communal sigh throughout

Hagerstown. But let’s get it right!

Right now, the Campbellsville Company estimates the steeple’s return and installation the

week of July 18th. We will keep you updated and extend an invitation to a “Steeple Place

Party II.”

After the session, everyone is invited to go to lunch at Cafe Italia for more fellowship.

(Traditionally, the Adult Sunday School goes to lunch on first Sunday of the month but

since that was July 4th, this month, we moved it to July 11.)
