Preparing for the Future
- common cataloguing standards and practices- shared or compatible ILS - policy positions
More effective and efficient school library services will enrich learning and teaching experiences for students and educators.
Consistent library catalogues support information literacy for transitions from PreK-12 to post-secondary.
The guidelines promote consistent library service practices throughout the province and use of common language.
High-quality data ensures a functional integrated library system (ILS).
Accessible bibliographic data opens communication with other libraries including public libraries.
Quality and excellence for all students• High-quality data in ILS for locating information• Information literacy skills transferable• Building strong, relevant collections
Accountability for effectiveness• Policy development as legislated• Processes to ensure appropriated standards and practices align with library conventions
Equity of access• Access to resources throughout school division – small schools are not penalized by small collections – sharing resources.
Co-operation to build capacity• Options to work with other school divisions and public libraries
Consideration for future growth and change.• Working with library community to incorporate digital resources and equip learners for 21st century learning• Provides transition to new RDA standards
