Sudan is the largest country in Africa. It consists of 25 states
with a wide diversity in culture, custom and nature.
It is also a very resourceful country with a lot of potentiality.
Proper planning is required for distribution of essential services
assessing demographic scenarios and demand.

Census is an operation that collects, processes, disseminates
statistical data and analyzes the distribution of population, social, economic data
Here we endeavour to show an example of a rural area by
representing all the data on map and showing all available basicservices like water source, education, social services and general
services etc.
Development activities of the government and the most of statistics
and demographic study may be supported by GIS technology

Geographical Information System the technology that lets us the
opportunity to capture, store, manage, process and analyze the
spatial data and simultaneously lets linking with other attributedatabases
GIS represent the inventory of resources and their distribution
and, provide the decision makers the idea of optimum resourceallocation
GIS may help the planners, researchers, and decision makers
with spatial features and database support in proper planning

The General objective of this paper is to study the needs based on the
demographic scenario by creating an information system of spatial and census
database for all rural areas in Sudan
The specific objective of the study:
1. Build database for rural area and update it dynamically
2. Use data for international comparison and follow up with the goal of
MDGs.
3. Use of GIS system to data capture, view, verify, retrieve, query and analyse
rural area
4. Data retrieve and query of any services through attribute data
5. Reduce the time to find out any statistical or demographic data withrespective maps

Methodology includes creating a strong information system to connect
geographical data with census attribute data
We depend on the data which is collected from the field for census
preparation by using the GPS (global positioning system) and download
these data to the computer and convert it to ARC GIS 9.2 compatible format
(*.shp file)
Then do edit, georeference, and other necessary process to create needed
layer
Enter administrative geocodes to the attribute tables for future linking withcensus attribute database

For this study we depended on pre-census (2008) GPS (Garmin
60cs ) data and the data taken in the following method:
Village boundaries are drawn by tracking with GPS andrepresented as polygon shape and
All available services (educational sites, healthcare facilities, water
sources inside it.
First we made classification for all services and assign unique
symbol. All location of services is represented as point.
Available data:

Below is the summary is show that can process these data:
Verifying all the data captured by the GPS, by comparing it with the field manuscript
form.
Downloading data from the GPS to computer and transfer it to shape file format to
store it according to geographical boundary (region, state, locality, administrate unit,
village)
transfer all data to ARC GIS 9.2 program and do all operation like (editing, cleaning,
correction, projection, rectifying)
Transfer all services point according to the type of symbol and represent it as point
layer
represent all the boundary of village as polygon.
All boundaries and services are arranged systematically

We prepared map (Fig-1 to fig-5 shown below) from the spatial
data where respective services are found. It can be linked with
census attribute data and make different assessment dependingon demographic data.
may be so many demographic themes upon which such kind of
GIS analysis can be done and decision makers can do their job
based on these thematic presentations.
