Father Al Zapf The closing words of today’s Gospel from St. Luke, on this 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time are: ‘MUCH WILL BE REQUIRED OF
THE PERSON ENTRUSTED WITH MUCH AND STILL MORE WILL BE DEMANDED OF THE PERSON ENTRUSTED WITH MORE.’ These words refer not only to the responsibilities of disciples of the Lord, but also to any who call upon the Lord with faith, realizing that God shares with us His DIVINE MERCY, who hopes we in turn will reply ‘JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU’.
Many facets of the Diocese On Mission for the Church Alive are tied directly to trust in the Lord. Every parish in our Grouping 451, also MPH ,is called to be engaged with the challenges and invitations that await us to become one in the Lord, as we prepare to MERGE to be One Parish early next year. We are invited to work together, to pray together, and to believe in and worship the same One Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who came into the world for you and for me to save us from our sins.
This week we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. Our Dear Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus, at the end of her earthly life was assumed (taken) into Heaven Body and Soul without any stain of sin or earthly defilement ever touching her being, and because of the great merits she had been granted due of her high privileges of the Mother of God, gained by her Immaculate Conception, and her willingness to say ‘yes’ to the Lord, ‘let it be done to me according to your WORD.’ She was exalted to the highest position of any one of our race, to be Queen of Heaven. Thank you Lord, Thank you Mary.
Next Sunday our Parish Grouping will celebrate our first annual Summer Social. It will be held at North American Martyrs grounds, beginning with a mass at 11 am (although one may attend mass in your preferred church), then the day continues with games, food, joy and laughter. Please plan to come to support the many that have done a lot to plan for this day. We are ONE in the Spirit, we are ONE in the Lord, and we pray that all unity will one day be restored.
God bless all of you. Love, Fr. Al Zapf+
Trust in the Lord
MPH employees received an email last week from a person who was pretending to be one of our clergy. The email simply asked “are you available?”, and if you replied, then response asked you to buy $300 in gift cards for ‘me’. This is a pretty common internet scam, known as ‘phishing.’
So, a couple of reminders: None of the priests, deacons, or employees of our parishes will ever send you an email, asking you to buy gift cards or send money to them. If you get one of these emails, please ignore it. You can tell that you’re being “phished” by looking carefully at the “From:” line in the email. No matter what the name is, you should take a look at the real email address that the email is coming from. If you receive one of these emails or are ever in doubt please contact the parish office for more information.

PARISH HAPPENINGS
We are grateful to the parishioners in our grouping that continue to support our aluminum can collection fund raising project. To date, we have collected 677 pounds of aluminum cans and processed them at the scrap yard collecting $270. We are pleased to inform you that the American Legion Gold Star Post 820 in Monroeville has been saving aluminum cans for us in support of our effort. We give them our heartfelt thanks for doing this, and we thank all of their members, both past and present, for their service to our country and our community. We will continue our aluminum can collection project and will periodically update our grouping on its progress.

"Vanity of vanities...All things are vanity "(Eccl 1: 2) Let's face it, all of us are vain to
some extent. We want to look good to others. Perhaps one of the few people who
will give us honest feedback about our faults is your spouse. Share one weakness
that you observe in your beloved today but balance it with one thing that makes you
proud of your beloved. Humbly accept both.
PARENTING POINTERS
"Stop lying to one another." (Col 3:9) Usually people don't lie because they are
bad, evil people but rather because they are afraid or want to protect themselves. Talk with your family about whether there is
ever a time when a lie is acceptable?
The Sanctuary Candle will burn this week in memory of Bill & Helen DeSantis from their daughter Irene.

Knights of Columbus Pius XII Council 4925
Your support goes a long way!
The first principle of the Knights of Columbus is CHARITY. To support our charitable efforts, Pius XII Council 4925 has fund raisers throughout the year. Starting in the Fall we’ll have our Football Sweeps tickets, the Chance Of A Lifetime (C.O.A.L.) raffle; the Knight at the Races in January, the Penny collection after Sunday Masses in the Winter; the annual summer Rege Reinersmann golf outing and Tootsie Roll Drives at Kuhn’s Market, Sam’s Club, Shop ‘n Save and Giant Eagle through the year.
Your continued support of these efforts is important to help our churches, the Ladies of Charity, local pro-life initiatives including purchasing sonogram devices, the Breaking Bread ministry, our youth ministry (including the summer mission trip), the Christmas food basket program, the intellectually disabled and/or physically challenged youth and adults in the St. Anthony Schools and McGuire Memorial Home and Schools, placing free Catholic literature in pamphlet racks in church and various support to other organizations and individuals in need.
Knights also give their time to help with fish fries, festivals, as chaperones during the summer youth mission trip, to sing in our choir, and lay ministers as lectors, ushers, Eucharistic ministers and the like.
We also support regional, state, national and international Charities through the Knights of Columbus. To see more, visit our local website at kofc4925.org or at pakofc.us or at kofc.org. Please support our fund raising efforts. Thank you.

Saint Susanna Feast Day
This weekend we honor St. Susanna, our church patron saint. Saint Susanna, virgin and martyr, is said to have been the daughter of Saint Gabinus of Rome. When
she refused to marry a pagan relative of the Emperor Diocletian, she was arrested and beheaded in her father’s house. This house and the adjoining one belonging to her uncle, the prefect Caius, which were near the two laurel trees, were turned into a church, later the titular church of St. Susanna.

Welcome to our Parish
19th Sunday In Ordinary Time
We’re planning on having a shuttle available to transport picnic attendees from Penn Hills parishes to NAM. There will be one pickup at each parish (St. Bart, St. Gerard Majella, St. Susanna) after Mass (around
11:30-12), and one or two return trips later in the afternoon. Please call the parish offices by Wednesday to reserve your space on the shuttle!
