ABSTRACT
Safety of two wheeler driver is very important so all countries in the world made it compulsory to
wear the helmet for riding the bike and made strict rules for drunk and drive though all the traffic
rules are not followed by the riders. The rules are violated so to solve such type of problem the
idea of implementing smart helmet will make motorcycle driving safer. The function of this
system is divided in two units, one unit is present inside the helmet and other unit is present inside
the helmet and other unit is present near the ignition of bike interaction between module present
on bike and helmet ensure that vehicle can start only when the user wear the helmet and the level
of alcohol consumption is below threshold level. This system will detect if any accident occur and
send message of location to family members and ambulance.
KEYWORDS: Arduino Uno, GPS,GSM RF transmitter and recveiver,IR sensor ,Alcohol sensor
,push botton.
INTRODUCTION:
In the fast growing world everyone wants to reach from one place to another place as fast as
possible. The use of bike is very common mode of human transportation. Also traffic rules related
to two wheeler vehicles are violated day by day on great scale. In the country like India, the cases
of bike accident are much more as compared to other countries of the world. So India has the
second position in the world for most severe accidents. So it is a matter of great concern globally.
If the person do not wear helmet then at the time of accident the chances of injury will be more.
People who drink and drive they also ride the bike which creates a big problem for other people
traveling on the road. If accident occurs it becomes necessary to inform the ambulance for
treatment but only few people get ambulance service at right time and few don’t get service at all.
There are many rules enacted by the government of India for safety of bikers. The traffic police is
responsible to check whether the traffic rules are followed by riders or not but in India rules are
not followed strongly so automatic system is required which ensures that some rules are followed.
In order to solve this entire problem we are going to implement smart helmet which automatically
checks whether the person has worn helmet or not, if the person has worn the helmet then bike
will start otherwise bike will not start. It will have an alcohol sensor which will sense the level of
alcohol consume by the riders. If the level of alcohol consume by the riders at the time of starting
the bike more than the threshold level then bike will not start.
In the case a message will automatically sends to the family member and ambulance with the help
of inbuilt GSM and GPS module in the helmet.

International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research, Volume 7, Issue 3, March-2016.
In this research paper the accelerometer used for the balancing of the bike rider. If the bike will tilt
than the threshold value will consider that the accident occurred and through the GSM & GPS the
message will be send to the family member or ambulance with location. But Limitation of this
project is, If tilting of helmet is done more than threshold level even if accident is not occurred then
message will send which is inconvenient

Research Journal of Engineering and Technology (IRJET)Volume: 03 Issue: 05 | May-2016.
Limitation of this project is, In this paper, a simple gas sensor used in place of MQ-3 sensor. MQ-3
is right for detecting alcohol from breathe. It is placed on helmet the front of the face of the rider so
it can easily detect the alcohol in breathe of the rider. This sensor has potentiometer to adjust the
different gas concentration.

GSM” International Journal of Applied Information Systems (IJAIS) Foundation of Volume
8– No.3, February 2015. The main purpose of this project to find the location where the accident
has occurred. But limitation of project is, In some place where there is no network available then it
is difficult to send the message

In smart helmet for biker’s safety there are two major parts:
1) In-helmet circuit:
In the helmet circuit as shown in figure sensors like vibration sensor, alcohol sensor, GPS, GSM module
and accelerometer are connected to the Arduino board. The vibration sensor is used to check whether
the biker has worn helmet or not. Alcohol sensor will sense the level of alcohol consume by the biker.
Accelerometer will sense the tilt of helmet to detect the occurrence of accidents. GPS is also connected
in the in-helmetcircuit to obtain the location of bike at the time of accident. The 5v power is required for
the in-helmet circuit. RF transmitter is used to send signal to the on-bike circuit.
2) On-bike circuit:
In the bike circuit as shown in figure components like RF receiver, Arduino, Arduinouno, motor drive
and DC motor. RF receiver will receive the transmitted signal from the transmitter it is given as input to
the Arduino board. Now Arduino will check the two conditions by comparing the two different signals
with the predetermined conditions. If the input of vibration sensor and alcohol sensor are high then only
bike will start otherwise it will not start.

CONCLUSION
The bike rider who do not wear the helmet and if rider drink and drive then in case of accident they
are very badly injured.so security of bike rider is very importance and our project provide security to
bike rider by continuous checking status of bike rider. In case of accident it will send the message
also.
