On Wednesday, October 19th over 30 Reseda
Businesses participated in a Social Media
Workshop sponsored by the RNC's Economic
Development Committee. Lee Weismann, with
ReachLocal, provided an overview of how
Reseda businesses can make the most of Social
Media to grow their customer base &
professional network. These Social Media
platforms provide a great way for customers to
get the latest information, sales, & specials
from their favorite Reseda business. For
business management, these tools are a no
cost way to increase awareness of your
business and the types of goods & services you
provide, while directly connecting with all your
customers in one place at one time!
FREE MULCH AND FRUIT TREES!
If you showed up after 10:00 AM to line up for
your FREE organic mulch and FREE fruit tree,
you arrived to an empty parking lot and
probably saw virtually no sign of the madness
that had ensued in the previous couple of
hours. Starting with 21,000 pounds of mulch
and 200 fruit trees at 7:00 AM, Reseda
Neighborhood Council and some early-rising
volunteers disseminated every last tree and
mulch chip by 10 AM. Folks began lining up at
6:00 AM to get their freebie, including an extra
15 trees donated by RNC Vice Chairman DJ
Frank.
Thanks once again to RNC Board Member and
L.A. Urban Forestry Division employee Brandon
Balderas for organizing the giveaway. He
delivered all 11 tons of the mulch, coordinated
with Councilman Dennis P. Zine’s office and
Lisa Sarno of the Million Trees Initiative as well
as our own Reseda Neighborhood Council.
Thanks also to the folks from the Million Trees
Initiative that were there at 6:30 AM and did a
great job of distributing avocado, lime, apple
and orange trees in a fair and deliberative
manner. And, to that one guy who
unexpectedly stole a tree earmarked for
someone else and jammed out of the parking
lot like it was a big money bank heist, we
wouldn’t be surprised if that tree bears some
bad apples, like its shameful owner.

THE ARTS LIVEN UP RESEDA’S
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
To truly be a great city, it’s particularly crucial
to have thriving arts and culture. The San Fer-
nando Valley has a growing art scene led by
the efforts of 11:11, a creative collective bring-
ing together up-and-coming artists and putting
their art on display at community events. Con-
tinental Art Supply, a staple of Reseda for sev-
eral decades, opened its doors for Art In Num-
bers on Tuesday Oct 25th, boasting a tempo-
rary gallery of beautiful and creative artwork
from many talented artists, all curated by
11:11 and their principle purveyors Erin Stone,
Addy Gonzalez, and Matthew Plotkin. To add
to a great night of creative discovery, was a
discovery of a different kind: food! Passersby
were lured in by gourmet food trucks on Re-
seda Blvd, The Grilled Cheese Patrol and Slap
Yo Mama, who served up New Orleans style
soul food. Local food spots were on hand as
well, amidst the eclectic vendor fair. Aura’s
Xquisit Food served up gourmet coffee, carrot
cake and cupcakes, while Carniceria Corona
kept the scents wafting through the crowd of
delicious tacos and other Mexican fair. Reseda
came alive that night, and everyone is asking
now, “when’s the next one?” Stay tuned, Re-
seda! The Arts will return soon, and definitely
in numbers!

ter, 10736 Laurel Canyon Blvd. in Pacoima.
The Department of Veterans Affairs and other
related organizations will set up booths to
provide services and information to Veterans

On Saturday, October 15, Reseda Recreation
Center came alive and was packed with kids.
Over 600 young adults came together for free
hot dogs, music, and over 30 giveaways which
included a lap top computer, bicycles, basket-
balls, soccer balls, martial arts lessons, dance
lessons, YMCA memberships, and the list goes
on.

BE PREPARED
Are you and your neighbors prepared for the
next disaster? Much has been made of keeping
food and water available for when the next
earthquake or other disaster strikes your
neighborhood. It’s imperative that everyone
keep sufficient supplies on hand.
Another tip in the effort to BE PREPARED: Con-
tact your neighbors and create a contact list of
phone numbers and email addresses that can
be used to contact each other should a disaster
occur. Make copies and distribute them to all
that are willing.
If you are interested in helping prepare your
community for a disaster, contact the Emer-
gency Disaster and Community Safety Commit-
tee and see what you can do to participate.
