Mission
Our mission is to continuously set standardsin postgraduate medical education andto foster the sharing of medically guidedexpertise in a worldwide network of health-care professionals to improve patient carein trauma or disorders of the musculoske-letal system.
The AO principles of fracture management
1 Fracture reduction and fixation to restore anatomical relationships.2 Fracture fixation providingabsolute or relative stability, asrequired by the ”personality”of the fracture, the patient,and the injury.
3 Preservation of the blood supply to soft tissues and bone by gentle reduction techniques and careful handling.4 Early and safe mobilization and rehabilitation of the injured part and the patient as a whole.

Education has always been a major focus of the AO Foundation.Each year, more than 46,000 surgeons participate in 750 AOeducation events worldwide. AONeuro is committed to commu-nicating the latest advances, literature, treatment informationand protocols in education, equipment, and new developmentsas we strive to improve your educational experience by provid-ing you education at the forefront of your specialty.
Your cranial neurological colleagues are working diligently tobring you the latest in cranial neurological education, and haveinitiated specific programs in the area of traumatic brain injury,skull base surgery and cranial reconstruction. Cranial AO Neuro-surgeons also collaborate with their AOSpine colleagues to bringyou the latest developments in combined brain and spinal cordtrauma. Here, AOSpine colleagues present related lecture material.Cranial neurological surgeons also cooperate withcraniomaxillofacial colleagues in the areas of facial and cranialtrauma, congenital craniofacial anomalies, skull base trauma,skull base surgery and reconstruction.

Goal of the courseThe AO Neurotrauma Course covers the theoreticalbasis and practical principles for managing neuro-trauma, addressing complications, and performingstate-of-the-art reconstructive surgery.
Target participantsThe course has been developed for surgeons whomanage neurotrauma and reconstruction and whohave a strong interest in these fields. It has a focus oninterdisciplinary care and is appropriate for neurosur-geons, CMF, ENT, trauma, and other surgeons.
Course descriptionThis course covers the current best strategies andconsiderations for managing neurotrauma patients.It features an international faculty of experts and isbased on the competencies defined in AONeuro’snew curriculum in neurotrauma. The course contentis delivered using multiple methods. Comprehensivelectures concentrate on the understanding of corematerial. Interactive case presentations furtherdeepen this knowledge and enrich the discussion intrauma management. Practical sessions teach theapplication of AO principles to the management ofcommon injuries. Case-based discussions link thelecture material and practical skills with the clinicalproblems encountered in real practice.
Course objectivesAfter the course, participants should be able to:
• Apply current classification systems and guidelinesin neurotrauma• Manage neurotrauma and skull base fractures inadult, pediatric, and polytrauma patients• Conduct advanced neuromonitoring• Plan and perform appropriate operative treatment(eg, decompressive craniotomy, complex cranialreconstruction)• Manage CSF leaks and other complications andperform dural repairs

AONeuro has recently been established as an own specialty withinthe AO family, and we are very thankful to colleagues from AOCMFas well as Warren Schubert (Chairman AOCMF International) andPaul Manson (AO Board of Directors appointed Coordinator forAONeuro) who supported our group in the last years.
Education has always been a major pillar in the AO and AONeurois committed to remaining in the forefront of education and newdevelopments as we strive to improve your educational experiencewith us. It is our goal to encourage and inspire younger neurosur-geons, but also those of neighbouring disciplines interested in themanagement of neurotrauma to pursue fulfilling careers in ourfield.
This course will take place at the Trauma Centre Murnau, one ofGermany’s biggest trauma centres, and is organized in close collaboration with the Neurosurgical Department of the Ludwig-Maximillian-University Munich.
We hope that your experience with us over the next few days willresult in the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and understand-ing, which will translate into an improvement in the care that youare able to give your patients.
