ProE Tip of the Week: ECAD ImportQuick Tip to reduce ECAD file size and make your model more robust

Page 2: PDT Engineering: ProE Tip #004

2

ECAD Step #1: Save a copy of the ECAD as a SHRINKWRAP file. File > Save a Copy > Change the type → Shrinkwrap

Benefits of savings as a shrinkwrap file:• File quantity reduced to 1 part for the entire ECAD assembly• Regeneration is more robust• Reduces design time• ECAD components in shrinkwrap will always stay associated with parent placement

ECAD Step #2: Modify the shrinkwrap settings

Save as a merged solid

Change Quality to 7This makes sure the height / placement are captured correctly. The higher the quality the longer it takes to process.(7 should be sufficient for most files)

ECAD Step #3: Make an assembly with the shrinkwrap file overlaid on the original ECADColor the shrinkwrap file blue > show the shrinkwrap in wireframe

The blue wireframe shrinkwrap file shows that it didn’t import correctly. It shows a height difference of 0.2mm. If you see a mistake, redo the shrinkwrap and increase the quality until you capture the correct ECAD layout

ECAD Step #4: Assemble the ECAD shrinkwrap to your model

Once you have a correct ECAD shrinkwrap, use this to assemble to your model. Now you have 1 part in the model tree instead of several hundred!
