I am thrilled to be welcoming competitors, coaches, sponsors, officials and spectators to Penrith for the 2013 Sydney International Rowing Regatta.
The 2013 Sydney International Rowing Regatta is a very special event in a number of ways and promises to deliver seven days of fabulous racing. In particular, it provides a wonderful opportunity for our school and club athletes to compete in the same arena as their Olympic heroes – a unique experience that we hope will enthuse a new breed of young rowers. Rowing Australia must be congratulated for their foresight and commitment to such an exciting endeavour in offering this unique concept to the rowing world. The ability of RA to deliver this wonderful event demonstrates the professionalism and capacity of our sport in Australia and I am excited at what lies ahead for us.
We have faced some challenges in delivering an event of this scale, but the one factor that has remained constant throughout is the professionalism and dedication of the individuals that form the Organising Committee. The Committee is formed of a diverse group, each offering specialist knowledge and skills, and all contributing above and beyond expectations. Too many to name personally, I thank you all for your tremendous contribution, particularly those that have provided their expertise and services in a voluntary capacity.
message frOm ORGANISING COMMITTEE ChAIRMAN
We have received incredible support from many sponsors and partners along the way, but I would like to make particular note of the assistance we have received from the local Penrith community through the Mayor Councillor Mark Davies, the Communications and Marketing team at Penrith City Council, led by Barbara Magee, and the Penrith City Chamber of Commerce, led by Jill Woods. Penrith has been wonderful in providing support in all areas and embracing rowing and the SIRR event. They have prepared their city beautifully and we are proud to again be bringing the international rowing world to such an accommodating community.
To the boat race officials, boat drivers, volunteers and all support staff – we thank you for your significant and vital contribution to the event. We are so grateful to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of people who give so generously of their time and expertise. Without you, events such as these would not be possible.
We hope you enjoy your experience at the regatta – an event that will truly be a ‘festival of rowing’. To our international guests especially, welcome and please come back again.

The YWCA of Darwin Inc was first formed in 1969 and became incorporated under the Northern Territory Associations Act in 1977. Like many YWCA’s around the world, the initial focus of the organisation was to provide safe and affordable accommodation to young women. Banyan View Lodge, located in Mitchell Street in Darwin, originally operated as a Young Women’s Hostel before the destruction of Cyclone Tracey.
