HILTON BAPTIST CHURCH
Volume 79, Issue 3
MARCH BANNER
Dear friends and family of HBC,
Our faith is not a “sit still” faith. This is because we believe in a God who is always
on the move. Even when God seems distant or quiet, He is active in ways that we cannot see. How often has God seemed absent during a difficult period of your life but as time passes you look back and can see that God was actually doing some-thing you were not aware of? Even when God tells us to “be still”, He is still at work in ways that we cannot see. During moments of rest and reflection God is renewing and restoring our tired body, mind and soul. From the very beginning the ancestors of our faith such as Abraham, Moses and Jesus, were people on the move because God was on the move.
God led and they followed. We are still people on the move whether that is some-one making an individual decision to follow Christ or a church takes the next steps moving forward in faith. The season of Lent will soon be upon us. During this season we will be considering the ways God is on the move. By considering various events in the life of Jesus we will see how God moved in His life and how God may want to move in our lives as well. Part of the adventure of following God is that one never knows where He may lead. I pray that this season of Lent will be one that takes us to a place of deeper trust
and stronger faith in the God who is on the move. Peace and Grace to you, Dan

Outreach News…
Thank you to all who were able to give to our “Giving Table” in February. The Food Shelf and the recipients will be very thankful for our goodies to help stock their shelves. (The Food Shelf had an exceptionally and unexpected generous outpouring of goodwill from the community at the first “Fill the Bus for the Food Shelf” this past weekend – so we will wait a week before delivering our gifts to the Food Shelf.)
We will be delivering:
46 cans of Tuna 17 jars of Peanut Butter and 2 jars of Jelly 7 containers of Oatmeal 11 cans of Soup 6 containers of Coffee 1 box of Tea
Thank you, thank you, thank you – for your generous generosity! Jayne and your Outreach Department
A Note About Our Church Pews...
Last September at the Church Body Meeting, Pastor Dan shared a church member approached him suggesting we examine our pews. As most of us are aware our pews are in need significant repair or replacement. Over the years repairs have been made in an effort to lengthen the life of the pews. However the pews will continue to age and also continue to grow more uncomfortable and unsafe.
Pastor Dan invited several leaders from various ministry teams to gather and simply begin to have the conversation about our pews. The conversation included the idea of making other improvements to our sanctuary as well.
This team of leaders met throughout the fall and some common themes continue to surface: Something needs to be done but what is it that our God is directing us to do at this moment? We believe we are called to build a bridge between God and people. How might our sanctuary be a place where those we love and those in our community can meet God in an environment that is inviting, comfortable and relevant?
The pew team has considered these questions and others. We would like to invite everyone to partici-pate in the discussion on Sunday March 10 at 11:00. You will have the opportunity to hear from the pew team and present any questions you may have.
Thank you and we hope to see you on March 10.

Looking for Volunteers…
Dear friends,
I am planning some fun, family friendly fellowship opportunities, for our Church family and the community. I am asking all of you for some volunteer time, please. Please mark your calendars and LMK. This will only be possible with your help. Let's introduce ourselves in a new way to our Hilton community. Thanks for considering.
The first will be Saturday, March 16th @ 1:00. Friends and Family Feud Event. You don't have to know any trivia or special facts. Everyone will belong to one of several teams in a friendly competition answering survey questions to accumulate points for their team. Light snacks will be served. Cost is $3.00 per person.
Helping hands needed for set up and break down of this event, please.
The second will be July, 23rd from 9:00- 12:00. We will be hosting a Bike Rodeo. There will be a safety check and skills obstacle course provided by the Monroe County sheriff’s Office.
Helping Hands needed - I will need 12-20 people to help the kids, man the stations or be general "runners of stuff". This will be a community event so I hope to have it very organized for a smooth running fun day!
The third is a Pet Day with costumed pets and activities. Early August. Details TBA

Support the Hilton Baptist Church Budget
Through
Tops “Cash for Causes”
Here’s how it works:
HBC purchases a minimum of $500 in Tops gift cards (a variety of denominations) at a discounted rate.
People who shop at Tops (or have friends/relatives who shop at Tops) purchase the gift cards from HBC at full value.
(Use the gift cards for your own purchases – including gasoline – or give those gift cards as gifts to someone you know who really doesn’t need anymore “things” but does like to shop at Tops and might be grateful to save some money – think birthday, anniversaries, holidays, college kids, housewarming gifts, grab bags, rewards – the reasons are endless for gifting someone.)
Complete the order blank below and return it with your payment to the office.
Pay via cash or check. Note: You can have your bank send a check if you do your banking on-line
For every $100 that is purchased through HBC, the church receives $5. Not a huge amount – but week after week, month after month, year after year – it adds up and will help to support some of our critical needs or most wanted projects. (100 families spend $100 each week on groceries and use the Tops gift cards we could raise $26,000. If 100 families spent $50 a week on groceries with the gift cards we would raise $13,000)
Our intention would be to offer this opportunity as long as there is interest and to have gift cards available immediately if folks like this program.
Caution: For those who like to use their credit card at the grocery store to obtain reward points, this probably isn’t for you – unless you are giving it as a gift. And remember – this is not a tax-deductible “donation.”

This is THE HBC DAILY PRAYER LIST. Please join us as we pray daily for the following people. Prayer works. Talk to God. And PLEASE pray for our congregation and Pastor Dan (and Karen), daily. Prayer is a two-way conversation.
Take time to talk and to listen... build your relationship with God!
This is just a small group of people that we ask for prayers for – there are so many who are hurting either physically or spiritually. Please ask for comfort and strength for those in need and give thanks for those rejoicing. This year, along with praying for God's presence in their lives, I've found myself thanking God for those listed - for their spiritual gifts and for their presence in my life.
Perhaps you have a special prayer that you use - for all of these people - for health, for a deep desire for God's presence in their life, or something that helps you bless them and yourself through your conversation with God. Thank you for joining us in prayer!
