The Elder examination Team will process the nomina- tions, interview nominees and present potential Elders for election at the December 8 Members’ Meeting. Those who are elected by the church will be examined by an ordi- nation counsel. Upon recommendation from this body, the nominee will be presented to the church for ordination. As you begin to prayerfully consider nom- inations for the office of Elder, the Elder Exami- nation Team recommends reading Finding Faithful Elders and Deacons by Thabiti An- yabwile. We have a limited number of copies of this book that will be available after the August 28 Members’ Meeting for $7 (cost re- covery). It is a great re- source to help guide your prayers and thought pro- cess as you consider nominees. You will be asked to nominate no more than four men. If you have any ques- tions about the process, please don’t hesitate to contact the church office.

Affirming the Authority of Scripture

of Jesus. What a powerful missionary movement! They had gathered in Jeru-salem, heard the gospel preached, embraced Je-sus, and then scattered to tell their story. We have a tremendous opportunity in MD/DE be-cause the world literally gathers here. As BCM/D churches, we magnify the name of Jesus in a place where the world gathers. Countless missionaries are launched from your minis-try to become a strategic

part of God’s broader plan of getting the gospel to “Jerusalem, Judea, Samar-ia, and the ends of the earth. Money given directly to the state mission offering will help reach this region by starting new churches, spreading the gospel on our college and university campuses, and touching lives through expanded ministries and evangelism efforts. Please prayerfully consider how you might participate.

Adapted from a letter sent by Dr. David Lee Retired Executive Director of the

BCM/D

"So those who were scat-tered went on their way proclaiming the message of the good news." Acts 8:4 There is an intriguing picture painted for us in Acts 8:4. New believers who had encountered the gospel in Jerusalem where scattered about their world. As they were scattered, they shared the good news

Who wrote the Bible? How did we get our Bible? How did Jesus view the Old Testament? Is the Bible accurate? How can I interpret the Bible better?

In September, we begin a new year of DiscpleLIFE...we are very excited as we contin-ue our second year of the three year program, "The Gospel Project." In October, we will have a special empha-sis on DiscipleLIFE...we are calling it…

Four Fabulous Sundays in October

As we know, DiscipleLIFE is 52 weeks a year...it is 24/7 for 365 days. That is a lot of numbers...all to say that Dis-cipleLIFE is critical to carrying out our church mission of "Gathering, Growing, and Going." Each Sunday, our classes will focus on a differ-ent topic. They are: Week 1-Enthusiasm-Why we are enthusiastic about DiscipleLIFE? Week 2-Engagement-We want our attendees to be en-gaged in hearing the mes-

sage of the Bible Week 3-Effectiveness-In order to be enthusiastic and engaged, we have to be ef-fective in our classes...this is teachers and students Week 4-Enlistment-As Disci-ples of Christ, we are called to go and tell the Good News! Matthew 28;18-20 is so clear regarding this message. Maybe you are asking, "What can I do?" Great ques-tion! We want everyone to play a part in this emphasis. Here is what we you can do. Please make every effort

to be on time & attend DiscipleLIFE each Sun-day. Each week, will recognize classes that have had a record num-ber in attendance.

Read the lesson the week before and prepare your hearts for Bible Study. There are classes for EVERYONE!

Invite someone to at-tend with you. This per-son may be a family member, a co-worker or a neighbor. Invite them to be a part of a class where the greatest mes-sage in the world is being taught.

In late August and Sep-tember, you will begin to see posters and read announce-ments as "Four Fabulous Sundays in October" nears. Our church family is blessed to have so many Godly men and women who teach the Bible and the "thread of Christ" throughout, every message. Please get excited about it as well as begin to pray about our focus on DiscipleLIFE for the new Sunday school year.

by bringing $398 to be used for our local mission pro-jects. These funds will be used for our “Operation Backpack” project, providing backpacks and school sup-plies for children in local elementary schools. At the end of July, there were approximately 40 chil-dren who participated in our All About Kid’s Production

We have had a great summer of activities for our children. We began with Vacation Bible School in June. Children studied the life of the Apostle Paul and learned to face their fear and trust God. There were 91 children enrolled for VBS and we had a great week. The children participated in our annual mission project

Performing Arts camp. They had a great week learning creative movement, rhythm for a bucket band, new songs in addition to practical Biblical concepts. On Fri-day, August 2, we were treated to a wonderful Friday Night Show as they per-formed all that they worked on during the week.

ues the scripture memory process, but also begin to understand why they believe what they believe. Trek, for Jr. High students and Journey, for Sr. High students continues the process of scripture memory as well as con-tinuing to build on the foundation of doctrinal beliefs as well as giving the youth an oppor-tunity to live out their faith with a variety of service opportunities. Registration for Awana, Trek and Journey will begin online for church members on Au-gust 12. On-line payment will be offered as an option again this year. You will want to register early to make sure that your children have a spot in their club. Spaces will fill up quickly, so please don’t delay. Choirs will also begin. If you would like to join the Adult Choir for the first time for the Fall, you should contact Jason Brown for an interview.

When it feels like 100+ degrees outside, it is hard to believe that Fall is right around the corner. September will be here before you know it and all of our Wednesday night activ-ities will be back in full swing. It’s time to get back in the swing of things for the Fall and that means the start of Wednesday night activities. On Wednesday, September 11, we will resume a full Wednesday schedule with din-ner, choirs, Awana. Our Awana program will be back in full force with discipleship for our children age 3 through High School. The Cubbies program for 3-year olds and Pre-kindergarteners starts children off with scripture memory and activities that center around the Gospel, giv-ing them a foundation for faith. The Sparks (for Kindergarten through 2nd grade) picks up where Cubbies leaves off with scripture memory, building on the foundation for faith in Christ. Children entering Truth in Training or TNT (for 3rd - 6th grade) not only contin-
