Warm greetings to all the readers! The editorial committee on behalf of Crescent Business
School (CBS) is very happy to come out with the half-yearly issue of E-Newsletter. At this
moment, we like to thank our Dean and other contributors to this newsletter for their
continuous support.
thOrientation for the fresh batch of MBA students was held on 13 August and classes
thcommenced from 14 August 2013. First year MBA students have successfully completed
their summer internships and final year students have been placed in companies in India as
well as abroad.
CBS organized a national conference on “Physical & Mental Health for Working
Professionals: An Holistic Approach” in the month of April 2013. CBS will be organizing
“Cruize ‘13”, the annual management meet in the month of December 2013.
A lot more interesting activities are lined up in this academic session too. So please wait for the
next issue of CBS Newsletter!

Campus Buzz
Consultancy Projects
Prof. N. Rajapriya has joined a consultancy project on “Ayurgenomics” in
association with Mahendra Consulting Services for Institute of Genomics
and Integrated Biotechnology (Ministry of Science and Technology).
Prof. J. C. Sharmila Devi is in the process of finalizing a project on
“Price Forecasting” for M/s. Coal and Oil Group.
Summer Internship
First year students of CBS completed their summer internship during the months of May-July 2013 in
reputed organizations like Airport Authority of India, Pepsico India Holdings Pvt. Ltd. , TEAM,
SAIL, BOSCH Ltd., TVS Logistics, ETA Technopark Ltd., HDFC Ltd., L&T Ltd., Indian Overseas
Bank, Yamaha Motors India, NLC Ltd., Rane (Madras ) Ltd., etc. Mr. S. Arun Prasad was rewarded a
silver medal and a cash award by Yamaha Motors India Pvt. Ltd. for his achievement under the
Yamaha Student Professional Program. He secured second place among all the interns who joined
Orientation
This academic year CBS received 221 completed
applications of which 80 students were selected and
admitted. Students were admitted on the basis of
their performance in MAT/ CAT/BSAU entrance
score, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
Orientation for the first year MBA students was thconducted on 13 August 2013. Orientation began
with a formal welcome address by Dean / CBS,
Prof. Mirza S. Saiyadain, who also briefed about
the policies and procedures of the School followed
by the self introduction of faculty members.
Students were also fortunate to receive the
blessings of Vice Chancellor Padmashri, Dr. Jalees
A. K. Tareen who welcomed them and wished them

Onam Celebration
Onam, the traditional festival of Kerala was celebrated by ththe students of CBS on 16 September 2013. The event
was made colourful with floral rangoli by the students.
Female students were dressed up in Onam sarees and male
students were in dhoties to exhibit the tradition.
CBS students have always excelled in showing their gratitude
towards their teachers. Teacher's day was celebrated by the thstudents of CBS on 5 September 2013. CBS faculty and
students arranged a get together to celebrate teacher's day. The
celebration was completed after cake cutting by Prof. S.
Krishna Kumar.
Fresher’s Day
Final year students of MBA extended a warm welcome
to the first year students by organizing a Fresher's party thon 6 September 2013 under the name “Cresher's Day”.
It was a forum for both the first and second year MBA
students to get to know each other. The event was filled
with fun and performances were given by the first year
as well as the second year students on various activities
like singing, dancing, etc.

Brainstorming
A brainstorming session was organized for the thfaculty of CBS on 24 August 2013. The session
addressed various issues related to the overall
functioning of CBS. The trip was also an effort to
build upon the team strength of CBS.

The national conference on “Physical & Mental Health for Working
Professionals: An Holistic Approach” was organized by Crescent thBusiness School on 19 April 2013. Prof. Haider Yasmeen was the
Convener, and Prof. Nirmala Raghavan and Prof. Rocky Devi were the
Coordinators of the event. Dr. Nambi, Professor & Head of the
Department – Psychiatry, Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital,
Chennai, and Prof. S. Jeeva, Professor of Yoga, World Community
Service Centre, Chennai, were the resource persons for the event. This
event attracted a number of participants from other Colleges, Universities
and Industries.
A workshop on " " was organized by Prof. N.
Anuradha in association with ICICI Direct Centre for Financial rdLearning on 23 September 2013. Students of II Year MBA with
finance specialization participated in the Workshop. The
workshop aimed to help students understand the concepts
relating to stock exchange practices with the real time
demonstration of deals .

Finance Club: Workshop on "Stock Mind"
Human Resource Development (HRD) Club
HRD club of Crescent Business School organized a one day visit to thUdhavum Ullangal Illam, a home for orphan children on 28 September
2013. The club has generated a fund of Rs. 8,660/- collectively from
faculty members and students of Crescent Business School. The fund
was utilized to provide meals, provisions, sweets and stationery items
to the kids. Faculty coordinators and student volunteers of HRD club
conducted various events for the children and gifted them with toys and
chocolates. It was indeed a pleasurable experience for all of them.

Prof. Aravindh Kumaran delivered a lecture on “Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) influence of thE-Business Factors on SCM for Indian MSMEs” on 25 April 2013 at BSAU, Chennai.

Prof. Charlie Thomas was a resource person for the National Conference on “Aspects of disaster mitigation
and management”. He delivered a lecture on 'Financial and Legal Issues in Disaster Mitigation and thManagement' on 19 April 2013 at BSAU, Chennai.
Prof. Mirza S. Saiyadain delivered a lecture to the management teachers of Vel’s University on “Effective
Pedagogical Tools and Modern Trends in Teaching Methods in HRM Area”. The FDP program was rdsponsored by AICTE and organized by VEL'S University on 23 May 2013, Chennai.
stProf. Jamal Mohamed Zubair delivered a lecture on “Entrepreneurship” on 1 July 2013 in DOMS,
Pondicherry University.

A research paper titled “Customer Retention in Organisations: A Review of Factors, Strategies and Effects”
authored by Prof. S.K.G. Ganesh and co-authored by Ms. G. Vaishnavi has been published in Organisation
Management, 29(1), 2013.
A research paper titled “Application of Yoga in Management: A Literature Review” authored by Prof.
Nirmala Raghavan and co-authored by Prof. Haider Yasmeen has been published in the National Journal of
Value Based Management, 2013.
A research paper titled “Self perceived attributes for employment: A study on engineering graduates”
authored by Mrs. Jainab Zareena and co-authored by Prof. Haider Yasmeen has been published in the

A research paper titled “Role of personal development planning programme in enhancing the career

CBS always encourages faculty members to participate in various seminars, conferences, FDP's and
workshops. As an outcome, many faculty members of CBS have attended/participated in various seminars,
conferences, FDP's and workshops in different parts of the country during the last six months.
