SC asks lawyers body not toobstruct Ryan school murder case

NEW DELHI, Sept 18:

The Supreme Court todaydirected the members of theDistrict Bar Association ofGurgaon not to obstruct in anymanner the proceedings going onbefore a special judge there relat-ing to the murder of a seven-year-old student in the RyanInternational school.

The apex court was informedby the bar body that they havewithdrawn their earlier resolutionin which they had said that nolawyer will represent any of the

accused in the case.A bench headed by Chief

Justice Dipak Misra observed thatan accused has the right to be rep-resented by an advocate and thebar was under an obligation not toobstruct any lawyer from appear-ing on behalf of an accused.

"We must say without anyhesitation that any accused, what-ever the offence maybe, has aright to be represented by anadvocate. The tradition of bardoes not authorise any bar associ-ation to pass a resolution likethis.(PTI)

India bids farewell to oneof its finest warriors

NEW DELHI, Sept 18:

The nation today bade a tearyfarewell to the Marshal of theIndian Air Force Arjan Singh as thelegendary warrior was laid to restwith full state honours including afly past by fighter jets here.

Singh's body was consigned toflames amid chanting of hymns atthe Brar Square in DelhiCantonment in the presence of sev-eral senior political leaders and topbrass of the Indian Military.

A gun salute was given toSingh while IAF Sukhoi fighterjets carried out a fly past in the‘missing man formation’ in honourof the 1965 war hero who died onSaturday. There was a fly past byIAF choppers also.

The missing man formation isan aerial manoeuvre to showrespect to a departed militaryleader.

The national flag flew at half-mast at all government buildings inthe national capital in the honour ofthe iconic hero of the 1965 India-Pakistan war, who was the onlyIAF officer to be promoted to five-star rank.

Earlier, Singh's body, wrappedin a flag, was taken to the BrarSquare crematorium from his resi-dence on a gun carriage.

Defence Minister NirmalaSitharaman and the three servicechiefs were among those present atthe crematorium. A number of for-

mer chiefs of the Army and IndianAir Force and Singh’s familymembers paid tributes to thedeparted military icon at BrarSqare.

A lot of people includingSitharaman were seen getting emo-tional when Singh's body was con-signed to the flames.

One of the finest soldiers ofIndia, Singh, who had led an youngIndian Air Force during the 1965India-Pakistan war, died onSaturday following a cardiac arrestat the age of 98.

All senior officers of the threeservices were present at the BrarSquare besides several politicalleaders including former PrimeMinister Manmohan Singh andBJP veteran L K Advani.

President Ram Nath Kovindand Prime Minister Narendra Modivisited Singh's residence yesterdayand paid glowing tributes to thewar hero.

Singh, the only officer to attainthe highest post of Marshal of theAir Force, a rank equivalent to theArmy's five star field marshal, wasa fearless and exceptional pilotwho played a major role in trans-forming the IAF into one of themost potent air forces globally andthe fourth biggest in the world.

Known as a man of few words,Singh was a fearless pilot and hadprofound knowledge about airpower and applied it in a widespectrum of areas.(PTI)

JAMMU, Sept 18: A manwas today attacked with a sharpedged weapon by two miscre-ants in Bishnah area of city out-skirts.

According to a police offi-cial, a man namely Sunil Kumarson of Banarsi Dass, resident ofKothey Morh (Bishnah), wasreturning to his home from abarber's shop in his locality, thisevening, when two men of hisvillage namely Vikram Kumaralias Billa son of Ram Lal andLovely alias Kalu son of GovindSingh, stopped his way andattacked with sharp edgedweapon.

"In the attack, Sunil Kumargot injured badly. Passersbyshifted him to nearby hospitalfor treatment", the police officialsaid, adding in this connection, acase FIR NO 195/2017 underSections 341/323 RPC, 4/25Arms Act was registered atpolice station Bishnah.

Truck loaded with 9 bovines seized, 1 heldExcelsior Correspondent

RAJOURI, Sept 18:Thannamandi police foiled abovines smuggling bid andseized a truck loaded with nine(9) milch animals during lastnight.

Giving details officialsources said that a police nakaparty from Thannamandi led bySHO, Insp Karan Chalotraintercepted a truck No. JK-11/5169 at Bego Nad, about 2 kmsahead of Thannamandi town lastnight for checking. The driverstopped the vehicle and tried toescape.

The police party chased and

nabbed the driver and duringphysical checking of the vehicle,they found nine bovine animalsloaded in it. The police partyseized the truck and rescued cat-tle. They were being taken toKashmir via Mughal Road. Theaccused driver was identified asKhaliq Ahmed, son of MohdShafi, resident of JawaharNagar, Rajouri.

The police registered a caseagainst the smugglers and start-ed investigation. The truck hadmanaged to cross several policenakas earlier in Rajouri area dur-ing last night prior to its seizurein Thannmandi.

Union Minister Kiren Rijijusaid today that there was a needto revisit the policies on bordermanagement to ensure that thefrontier regions grow in stepwith the rest of the country.

Rijiju said the NDAGovernment was committed tobringing prosperity for the peo-ple living in border areasthrough development.

"We as a nation, need torevisit our policies on bordermanagement and ensure that

entire borders are as developedas other areas," he said afterinaugurating a conference onsmart border management andcoastal and maritime security,organised by the IndiaFoundation and the FICCI.

The Union Minister of Statefor Home said the nation beginsfrom its border and not from itscapital.

Rijiju also released a FICCI-PwC report on 'smart bordermanagement' which has high-lighted the threats and chal-lenges faced by various agenciesin the deployment of an effec-tive coastal security mechanismacross the Indian coast.

According to a press releaseissued by the FICCI, the reportsaid, India's long coastline pres-ents a variety of security chal-lenges including illegal landingof arms and explosives at isolat-ed spots on the coast, infiltra-tion/ex- filtration of anti-nation-al elements, use of the sea andoff shore islands for criminalactivities, smuggling of con-sumer and intermediate goodsthrough sea routes etc.(PTI)

DODA, Sept 18: A motorcy-clist was killed today in a roadmishap at Galigud Kandni.

According to the reports, aman identified as Alam Din sonof Kuhda Baksh, resident ofChapuli Trigam, was killedwhen a bike on which he wasgoing on, plunged into a deepgorge near Galigud Kandni onDoda-Kishtwar Road.

The body of the deceasedwas shifted to nearbyGovernment hospital for postmortem while the concernedpolice had taken cognizance ofthe matter.

According to a police offi-cial, a woman identified asSunita Devi wife of RajeevKumar, resident of BadyalBrahmana (RS Pura), today losther purse containing a mobilephone, Aadhaar card and a cashof Rs 5000 at Kullian Bus Stop.

The purse was found by apolice Constable namelyBalwinder Singh and SPO RajKumar of police post Kullian,who returned the same to itsowner.

10 tractor trolleysseized for

POONCH, Sept 18: DistrictTransport authorities todayseized ten tractor trolleys forillegal operation and imposed aheavy fine on the operators.

Official sources said that onthe basis of public complaintabout the illegal operation oftractor trolleys in the district, ateam of Transport Departmentled by ARTO Poonch, AbdulRahim, launched special drivetoday and seized 10 tractor trol-leys. He also imposed heavyfine on the operators. Theauthorities would continue thisspecial drive in the entire areafor next couple of days. He alsoappealed to the bike riders touse crash helmet or face heavyfine and even seizure of thetwo-wheelers.
