COMMON CORE ALIGNED MATHEMATICS
February 25, 2014
OVERVIEW
• SFUSD is in the process of implementing the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-M).
• Our recommendation addresses this question:
With the transition to the CCSS-M, what course sequence supports college and career readiness for all students?
• We are presenting a course sequence that supports the
successful completion of the “c” requirement for UC admission.
FOCUS, COHERENCE, RIGOR
• FOCUS – Developing deep conceptual understanding that lays the foundation for future learning
• COHERENCE – Building conceptual understanding over multiple
years through research-based learning trajectories • RIGOR – Balancing conceptual understanding (the ability to access
concepts from multiple perspectives and apply them to new situations) with procedural skill and fluency
No longer means pushing content down into earlier grades
