1 Overview
The ClearLink UDIT is a modular, scalable sub-system which provides RF conditioning between the BTS and the DAS for single carrier or neutral host multicarrier/operator systems. The ClearLink UDIT chassis is capable of supporting 13 modules; a controller/power supply and up to 12 UDIT POIs or UDIT Combiner modules. The chassis and all UDIT modules are designed with their cabling interfaces accessible on the front panel. This arrangement provides the system maximum flexibility to meet the specific installation needs.
1.1 Customer Furnished Equipment
The UDIT chassis can be rack mounted in a 19” two (2) post rack using center mounted hardware or flush mounted in a four (4) post rack. Table 1-1 list the tools and supplies that you will need to have for the installation and maintenance of the UDIT system.

1.2 Prepare the Site
Select an appropriate location within your rack for mounting the UDIT chassis. Please consider the high heat load of the unit and its requirements as well as the availability of the required power. Some acceptable locations include; telecom closets, MDF rooms, and climate control enclosures. The area must also be capable
of providing at least a 10” unobstructed area behind the unit to avoid cooling fan airflow restriction.
Local Code Requirements should be followed. Always review the local code requirements with the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) before proceeding with the installation. This includes reviewing what codes and edition is adopted, and what, if any exceptions to the code are adopted by the governing authority. Most of the code requirements for the job should be included in the scope of work documents. The installer should never take this information for granted since the telecommunications contractor is fully responsible for all work
done on the project.
If no code has been adopted locally, consult with the fire marshal’s office to determine what agency is responsible for that geographic area and what codes are in effect. Do not depend on other installers, contractors, or even company personnel in making these determinations.

Local DAS Requirements
In 2010 the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) adopted an updated version of their code NFPA-72, the National Fire Alarm Code, which includes a requirement for DAS or other In Building Wireless (IBW)
systems in certain commercial buildings to provide coverage for public safety radio systems. A growing number of cities and states are adopting this or a similar code, making such coverage mandatory. The specifics of these ordinances and codes vary, but most include: A minimum signal strength, application of the limit over a specified percentage of each floor, a specific level of reliability, a specific frequency band or bands for public safety coverage, testing requirements and procedures, provisions for penalties, provisions for waivers of the requirements.
1.2.1 High Heat Loading Considerations
Due to the high density construction of the chassis and ability to handle up to 100W of RF power per POI, care needs to be taken to accommodate for the potentially high heat loading of the area in which it will be installed.
Table 1-2 shows an example of the heat calculation for a single chassis with 12 POI units.
In cases where a large number of units are installed in a limited area, additional cooling may be required to avoid hot spots and excessive temperature gradients in the room. For additional information on equipment and room cooling methods, refer to GR-3028-CORE, Thermal Management in Telecommunication Central
Offices: Thermal GR-3028.

8 Cabling and Cable Management
The slots in the Cable Manager allow flexibility in securing BTS and DAS cables. Cables can be routed from the front of the UDIT Chassis to the rear of the rack or up/down the front of the UDIT Chassis and across Cable Managers mounted above and below the UDIT. The UDIT is designed such that a cable connected to a lower position DIN connector routes up and a cable connected to an upper position DIN routes down.
NOTE
Cables should be installed such that they will not interfere with the installation
or removal of a POI into any slot, nor block the rear fans.
NOTE
When installing cables it is important to maintain the bend radius of the cables. Refer to the manufactures specifications for specific cable bend radius.
NOTE
QMA jumpers should be of a flexible cable such as RG142 or equivalent. Users should not use an N to QMA adapter on an inflexible cable such as LMR400, or LDF4 as this could damage the QMA connectors on the UDIT modules.
