A Note from the Executive Director Television Update II: AT&T was on site this past Thursday to walk the buildings and grounds with Tim Andrews. Next week you will likely see some preliminary activity here if you keep your eyes peeled. Their first two steps will be to set junction boxes near the back gate and to fish some cabling through the villas.
We supplied them with CAD drawings this week of the property. Hopefully they will use those quickly to supply us with a final engineering layout. I’ll continue to pass along information as I receive it.
Connected Living Update Most of you are still unsure what Connected Living is. Well, now you won’t have to worry about it. After polling Members across Senior Living Communities, it was determined to end this experimental program in April. This update was given on the SLC Board call last Thursday to our RAC Members.
Serge Loussarian, RAC Member, is working on ideas that would supplement some of what Connected Living should have done for Members and families. Other outlets such as Facebook and plain ole e-mail provide some of that same style of connection for families and their loved ones living at Cascades as well.
Rejuvenate Salon Rejuvenate is currently looking for a replacement for the stylist you know as Starr. During the interim, all appointments will be covered by Carolyn, Angela and Chantel.
Interior Plantscapes Every month I sign an invoice that pays Interior Plantscapes to water, feed and take care of their supplied plants throughout our Clubhouse and buildings. It is their job to water them and take care of them, so I need to ask two things: 1) Please refrain from watering our interior plants. 2) If you have an issue with any of the interior plant care, please bring it to my attention. Members shouldn’t be calling Interior Plantscapes or addressing issues with their employees while onsite. Please bring those to me instead.
Your cooperation with this is greatly, greatly appreciated.
Senior Leaders Greenville We are also very pleased to host the Senior Leaders Greenville next week for their monthly meeting. Thank you to Chuck Hawkins and Jermaine Fluker for making this event possible. We know they will have a great time!
Enjoy what should be a beautiful weekend!
All for now. Jason

2014 ADVENTURE TRIP #1 Tuesday, MARCH 11th at 8:30am
Kings Mountain National Military Park – Did you know that it is not a civil war park? Did you know that most battles/skirmishes of the Revolutionary War took
place in South Carolina? Learn all about this major battle as described below:
By 1780 the northern campaign of the American Revolutionary War had been fought to a stalemate, and England turned its military strategy toward the South.
The tactic seemed simple: re-establish the southern royal colonies, march north to join loyalist troops at the Chesapeake Bay, and claim the seaboard. But a sudden battle in the wilderness exposed the folly of England’s scheme and changed the
course of this nation. You will hear and see all the details of this battle.
There is a wonderful visitor center (VC) which includes a 26 minute film, a major exhibit museum, a bookstore and a 1.5 mile paved battlefield trail with numerous monuments. People with walkers may have difficulty with the trail, but will enjoy
the VC.
The Gaffney Premium Outlets include over 60 outlet stores, a food mall, Outback Steakhouse, and the Cracker Barrel restaurant. A listing of the stores is in the
“RSVP” book.
We estimate 3.0 total hours on the road and 2.5 hours each at the park and outlet. There are over 30 people signed up and BOTH buses will be used. BOTH will first go to the War Park for 2.5 hours +/- . Both will plan to go to the Outlet Mall for
lunch and shopping. HOWEVER,If the large bus has enough seats to bring back all the shoppers, the small bus can return after the PARK expedition. If not, you will
have to form car pools to go to the PARK and bring back non eaters/shoppers. Jermaine will not do that.

Despite his success in patching the breached hull, his mariner's intuition, and a strength that belies his age, the man

News from the Trail March
To have a classic sign of spring occur on Feb. 10
th was quite remarkable. Several
residents who were walking along the sidewalk beside our stormwater wetland were
amazed at the spring peepers chorus arising from the marsh. This phenomenon has
continued on days when the temperature has risen above 60 degrees. Spring peepers
are tiny one inch frogs that inhabit wetlands and woodlands in southeastern U.S.
The males are attracting females by inflating and deflating a large sac under their
throat, creating the bell-like peep. In the winter the peepers can be frozen and still
survive until the warmth arrives. They are insect eaters and live on the forest floor
and low hanging branches, retreating to the ponds for the winter. Amphibians are
the world’s most endangered class of animals with disease, and loss of habitat,
reducing their numbers. It may be comforting that, next to our dense development,
Cascades has created this breeding site for these special little frogs to sign their
song. Jack Postle
